I got passed up for a promotion last quarter.
My boss pulled me aside and said, “The other guy is more proactive.”
I asked him what that meant.
He just smiled and said, “You’ll see.”
I did.
The next Monday we had an all-hands.
Topic: “Unexpected budget cuts.”
By Wednesday, my intern was gone.
The “proactive” guy who got my promotion fired her.
Then told me I’d be absorbing her workload to streamline
Thursday he’s out of office.
“Strategic planning offsite,” his calendar said.
His Instagram said Victoria Falls, infinity pool, caption: “Building the future.”
Meanwhile I’m doing three jobs and training his replacement.
The math wasn’t mathing.

@esccroads The temp traffic lights at the junction of Priory Avenue and Braybrooke Road are not working. Main lights out as well. Busy and unsighted junction. There will be a horrible accident. @hastingsbc @EastSussexCC @sussex_police

Teams often have performance bonuses, and being at the front makes sponsorship deals easier tonsign. So sorting out the current on-track energy recovery mess has deep commercial and financial implications. Unsurprisingly, some teams are more cautious than others. #F1

@Se_Railway @Se_Railway bus has turned up at Stone gate, passengers detrained and boarded bus only to be told to get off bus as another train was coming down the line that we could get on. Terminated train still at platform blocking line, bus still in car park. What should we be doing?
English

⚠️ UPDATE: Staff are working hard to reopen the line through #Stonegate as soon as possible
🕒 The current estimate is that the line will be re-opened by 20:30
English

⚠️ NEW: Because of a train hitting an obstruction on the line at #Stonegate trains are unable to run through the station towards Hastings
ℹ️ Driver is investigating the train and the line to ensure trains can run safely

This is a pretty simple situation for the FIA. Trying to muddy the waters in this matter is just a sign of politicking.
The regulations are clear about the need for compliance at all times regarding compression. Obviously, measurement methodology is the constraint. If there is some direct level of engineering that alters that ratio, it’s illegal. If it is done more subtly through thermal expansion, it is also illegal, as the perception of gray area in the regulation does not actually exist. Again, it’s simply a matter of measurement constraint. If any sort of additional measurement methodology allows them to ascertain that the lines have been crossed, that’s pretty much a slam dunk.
There is obviously only one answer in that scenario, and that is to force changes upon the power unit manufacturer/s not in compliance.
If the rumors are true, and this is the methodology adopted by Mercedes and Red Bull, they should reap the logical consequence of having to alter their PU to adopt conformity with the regulations. At whatever cost they incur. That would affect a total of 5 teams, which is still the minority of the 11 teams represented on the 2026 grid.
Allowing them to continue with a power unit that is in breach of the regulations, both by the letter of the law and the intent of the regulations, would negatively impact a greater number of teams than it would if the culprits were forced to make last-minute changes to their noncompliant power units, even at great hindrance to their competitiveness.
I’m glad we could clear that up. 👍

🚨 More than 50 MPs and Lords have signed @jeremycorbyn’s letter calling on @DavidLammy to meet with the families of the hunger strikers and their legal teams urgently.
His refusal is breaching their rights and endangering their lives.
Jeremy Corbyn@jeremycorbyn
More than 50 MPs and Peers have joined me in urging David Lammy to immediately meet with the lawyers of those on hunger strike. The government needs to wake up, take responsibility, and show some humanity before it is too late.

@RichardBurgon ...and do what? Why don't you call for a specific action rather than just nice sounding words? Probably because you know that your position is legally untenable. Whatever you think about their politics they're on remand for violent, criminal offences.

Every single British citizen should be raising their voice because what they do to them they will do to us ALL.

@ZackPolanski I was seriously considering voting Green at the next election and I like your refreshing take on politics BUT this is just silly. They're not being held for protesting and they've chosen to go on hunger strike, nothing is being forced on them. Be honest about it.

@JScott457 @farzyness Isn't the truth more complicated than that? Government plays a role through procurement, financial investment, and due to the historical engineering knowledge that SpaceX and others have relied on to push further.
English

@farzyness It is happening not because governments decided to do it but because government kept out of the way long enough for it to happen.
English

I don't think people fully understand what's about to happen.
Within the next 10 years, America is going to have such a dominant position in space that it will be basically impossible for any other country to catch up.
We're going to have thousands of satellites providing internet, communications, GPS, weather data, military intelligence, all owned and operated by American companies.
We're going to have American companies mining asteroids for rare earth minerals.
We're going to have American companies building habitats on the Moon.
We're going to have American companies establishing the first permanent settlement on Mars.
And all of this is happening not because the government decided to do it, but because private entrepreneurs saw an opportunity and went for it.

Jezza it’s a bit like a harvest, sometimes you have to be patient. From four starts this season we’ve had four different winners. Some football matches are nil-nil. Some are last minute 5-4 thrillers. That’s sport. I know you love F1 really. Change the cars, not the tracks.
Jeremy Clarkson@JeremyClarkson
I’ve had an idea to make F1 racing more consistently exciting. Don’t use tracks where overtaking is difficult.
