Abby kicked the fallen clicker one last time for good measure before turning to Ellie, “you okay?”

Abby turned and walked towards it, punching it square in the face, stunning the infected. Abby slammed it against the wall and jammed her knife into its fungal plates over and over.
“Abby. I think it’s dead.” She heard Ellie say.

Abby was on the clicker the second she heard Ellie cry out her name. Blacked out with rage. She grabbed it from behind by the shoulders, throwing it clean across the room before smashing its skull with her boot.
A second clicker stumbled into the room, screeching loudly.

Once Abby reached the next floor, she heard the unmistakable clicking sounds. Abby put her finger to her lips, looking back at Lev. “Stay here.”
Abby slowly crept closer to the sounds. ‘Shit, whose blood is that?’

Abby looked up into green eyes filled with…concern? “Sorry,” she mumbled as she let her hand fall from Ellie’s.
Abby got up, dusted herself off, and started walking ahead. She turned back towards Ellie, still standing there, “you coming or what?”

Once Abby felt solid ground under her feet she collapsed, Ellie’s hand still in her grasp. “Fuck, holy shit, I can’t believe I did that.”
Abby sat there for a few minutes collecting herself, still holding Ellie’s hand until the shorter girl cleared her throat above her.

Abby looked down at Ellie’s good hand, then back up at her, too afraid to even speak. Without thinking, she grabbed the smaller girl’s hand, and with a deep breath took a step forward onto the beam.
“Don’t look down,” she heard Ellie say. Abby squeezed Ellie’s hand tighter.

Abby was frozen solid. “Yeah. Still waiting on that true strength, Lev.”
She didn’t know how she was going to cross this bridge. But it was the only way.

“This is it, Long Beach, we can make it to Catalina Island from here. The Fireflies have to be there.” Abby said with hope in her tired eyes.
