@needaubrey We can't tell people to adopt AI and then complain when they do. We need to pick a struggle. People really just want to get a job and they are willing to do everything including learn/use AI to achieve their aim.

It's funny as someone taking lots of job applications that I have received literally hundreds of variations of the exact same message, presumably from people who just put "write a cover letter for this job" into ChatGPT.

@AffiSupaStar Is this worth updating your SWOT analysis document for? Which business school will prepare you for scenarios like this?

After 14 years of doing business in Nigeria, I still manage to get surprised. A transporter bringing mangoes from Benue offloaded the entire consignment at Sagamu (1 hour away from our factory) because he had to turn back and return the truck.

If tech bosses don’t train for the roles their innovations create, they’ll face the same talent gaps we see with mechanics and other artisans. Car makers/ importers never train mechanics at the scale at which they flood the market with their vehicles.

@DrOlusesan They are innovating new businesses daily that require specialised talent, yet they are not training for it. They should do what the new generation banks and multinationals do, train for the roles they create. Let all of them contribute to the talent pool at scale.

If you invite a toad for a job interview, you’d hear it croak! Multiple truths can coexist. Many business owners fumble their company’s recruitment process by assuming the role of an HR specialist. It often begins with poor shortlisting. Of a truth, you’d be bombarded with a heap of poor-quality resumes unless you rely on a well-designed recruitment process. You’ll see people who merely took 'law of contract' as an elective while studying estate management posing as lawyers. Many maintain fanciful LinkedIn profiles with photoshopped skill sets, only to end up as a PURE (Previously Unrecognisable Recruitment Error). Sometimes, quite strangely, many highly proficient applicants have less glamorous CVs. However, experienced HR practitioners are able to identify them by first conducting a preliminary phone interview with the top 5% of best-fit resumes. There would be far less confusion if we began to treat HR as a critical area of specialization. The tech and fintech sectors, in particular, tend to have some of the worst HR practices.

Thank you for raising this, Saudat. A 3-week wait is not the standard we want to be known for, and your concern about a Lagos request being tied to Abuja processing is noted. Please send your company name, registration details, and contact number by DM immediately. I will ask the Lagos team to look into this and provide clarity on your certificate status without delay. We are also reviewing service processes to improve turnaround time and make access easier across locations.

I’m a Psychiatrist. Let me say this clearly: The goal of mental health is not to become unbotherable. If nothing stresses you, nothing moves you, nothing gets to you — that’s not strength. That’s shutdown. #mentalhealth #drmayspeaks A THREAD
