@OinkFish_Pigs I mean he’s absolutely a better “arm talent” than Brady. Marino is debatable but I’d lean Allen. I think throwing on the run absolutely has to qualify as part of arm talent and he laps those two by miles

I to this day, cannot believe my team fucked up the Jack Eichel era so god damn badly. We’d be cup champs this year if everything else was the same and he was here

@NotTheJoeMarino I don’t hate him. But I certainly don’t trust him. I have 0 idea which UPL we get next year. I’m fairly certain I know which Lyon we get.

Argh, I hate to say it but Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is becoming so overhated that he’s going to be underrated very fast And I’m not even that big of a fan of his

Can’t understand anyone that really feels confident in this group of goalies next year. I like Lyon, but UPL is the opposite of what you want if you’re a contending team just needing slightly above average net play. Hes a total wild card
x - A a r o n@23sabres

I decided to check the numbers on this and here is where UPL’s ranks among goalies in each respective season in Sv% above expected (min 1250TOI) 22-23: 37/40 23-24: 7/41 24-25: 35/37 25-26: 14/42 Really has been a coin flip so far

@michaeldsheedy @PierreVLeBrun @TheAthletic Personally I'm over it I don't really care. We both know how bad he was and he's no longer here. The reason the Sabres are finally good is that they eventually matured on their own with no help of Adams who made it a mission to constantly have the youngest NHL roster

@SeanBroadley87 @PierreVLeBrun @TheAthletic If fanbase shifts into an era of Adams relitigation and apologia for foreseeable future I’m probably going to stop following lol. Dude was responsible for nearly destroying my fandom and frankly did so for many others, just have no interest in him remaining the main character

NEW for @TheAthletic, Kevyn Adams in his first interview since his firing as Sabres GM. On how happy he is for the team and the fan base for the season they had, on the vindication of the roster he built, on lessons learned as well from his tenure, and on what lies ahead ⤵️ nytimes.com/athletic/72950…

@LNeaverth95590 I’m more in agreement on Helenius than the other two. All 3 could be But for example someone brought up Nico Hischier as a trade option. None of those three would be untouchable in that scenario for me

Feels like were at a point again with the Sabres where a bunch of people are going to over rate the prospects and under rate full time NHL'ers they can possibly acquire. Helenius, Ostlund, Kulich are excellent pieces. But if you can turn one of them into an impact player...

@michaeldsheedy @PierreVLeBrun @TheAthletic Whoa man, he was only handed Rasmus Dahlin, Tage Thompson when he started along with having Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart as trade chips. It’s incredible it only took him 6 years to build a competent roster. Toronto should hire him asap

@PierreVLeBrun @TheAthletic Awful GM. Save me w/the “vidication” utter nonsense. Taking 6 years to build a team that makes playoffs is absurdly bad, not to mention it only did so after he was fired b/c he was an accountability block, culture scourge (and culture was his mandate upon hiring).

@23sabres I just think that Tuch is a large reason why the forward core looks stacked. You remove him…then let’s say you have an injury…then let’s say Helenius doesnt immediately look like a top 6’er next season. The forwards don’t look so hot

@SeanBroadley87 Those contracts are interesting bc you had one that didn’t work out very well, and you had one that worked out very well for 5 years before he became bad and they had to buy him out Also Briere’s peak was a 1C with 95p and PPG playoff player, not surprised there was outrage

@islanders_takes You can absolutely luck your way to a game 7 win. Which you did. But overall the series getting to 7 wasn’t luck

You don't "luck" your way through a 7 game series. Especially not twice. MTL won. They won because they deserved to win. The problem with xG and all this brainrot that's come from it is that people are losing sight of the fact that hockey is a game of swings and moments. This is likely just some TOR ragebait but the reality is that saying MTL should have been beaten on the strength of xG could easily be flipped into a criticism of players on the other team for failing to finish. One team executed where it mattered. The other did not.

@23sabres Remember when the Sabres had an absolutely loaded forward core in 2005-06? Then a year later let two vets walk out the door? I’m not saying a Tuch contract will workout…but I’m not 100% confident his absence isn’t immediately felt and harder to replace than imagined

If the Sabres can swing Robert Thomas, and the package has to include 1 of or both Ostlund/Helenius my answer might change But that secondary core coming in is going to be way more valuable in a few years than Tuch, maybe even by late next year

The same people who shrieked incessantly about how $25/hr was absolutely necessary for menial zero skill work are now confused about why a value meal costs $15, a car costs $35K and a house costs $500K

@MattKopnak What I want is for Ruff to not have to make goaltending decisions in May. People keep quoting the last four goalies. How many of those 4 has split time with another goalie in the postseason? Colorado changed for 1 game. Carolina no, Vegas no, Montreal no.

@SeanBroadley87 Saros has been bad for years so I don’t think you want to add him. Swayman, Oettinger and Dostal were drafted by their teams. Vladar was a backup basically until this year and you said you want to avoid guys like that. Thompson is good name.

The Devils traded a 1st (18OA) for Jacob Markstrom two years ago. It was a big name goalie moving to an up and coming team. The piece that would make them contenders. Since the trade he has posted Sv% .900 .883 GSAx 7.8 -2.12 And has had multiple injuries.

@MattKopnak But unlike the Devils, and other teams who have made moves like this…the Sabres have the D core already set. They have the system and coach set. Now they need saves. Also why is Swayman, Oettinger, Vladar, Saros, Thompson, Dostal excluded? Any one and we could be in Carolina

Yup. I wonder how Lindy sees it: 3 years ago he was RIGHT where he is now after a 112-point season with a supposedly rising young team in NJ ... without a true No. 1 goalie. The next season he could not get a save and was fired after 61 games and NJ hasn't made playoffs since.
Owen Parker 🥅@OwenP29

@NotTheJoeMarino My concern with this thought process is the muddy middle of goaltending in the league is so so inconsistent. Going out and getting another guy similar to what they have now could easily yield the same results. A true STUD is the only way to avoid that question mark.
