@komonews And when "high earners" don't want their income taken by the government and leave, who foots the bill?

Three years after Seattle voters approved the creation of a publicly owned social housing developer — and later approved a new tax on high earners to fund it — the organization has made its biggest move yet: purchasing a luxury apartment building steps from Pike Place Market for $60 million. The acquisition of the Elara at the Market marks the first major property purchase by the Seattle Social Housing Developer, which plans to convert the 150-unit building into permanently affordable housing. @minty_hawk I sure did. So the only way to make this "affordable", and I use the term loosely, is to rely on taxpayers to subsidize the rents and pay the city back for the investment? Is this how this works?

Did nobody stop and think about the math here? This building is unlikely to finance the bonds. $2M in net revenue cannot service $60M in debt at any rate being issued in 2026. The payroll tax is the collateral, and the building is the photo op. I really wish more Seattleites thought about things just a step or two deeper, but alas we are stuck with vibes.

BREAKING: The Seattle Social Housing Developer has announced its first acquisition, a 150-unit apartment building near Pike Place Market in downtown Seattle, for the cost of $60.9 million. It plans to convert half the units to be affordable for low and middle-income tenants.

**It's Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC).** They filed a WARN notice to close all their Washington facilities (Auburn, Everett, Seattle, Spokane + some remote roles), cutting 267 jobs. This is part of a broader restructuring/sale of their WA and OR operations to Columbia Distributing. The closures are expected around mid-July 2026.

Why didn't the guy press for a vote on the sunsetting of the total compensation credit? Keeping that credit would have been a first step in preserving the small businesses and keeping energy in the economy. He didn't. The whole council stood down at the behest of David Rolf and the SEIU.

Seattle City Councilmember Rob Saka says he is “gravely concerned” about the future of Seattle’s business climate, warning that city leaders must avoid “villainizing” employers as national scrutiny intensifies over the city’s economy and public image. In a wide-ranging interview Thursday, Saka addressed criticism sparked by recent comments from elected leaders about the business community, concerns over job losses, and whether Seattle risks driving employers elsewhere amid ongoing debates about taxes, affordability, and public safety. Consequential thoughts can be set aside for a later time. Our heart expresses deep gratitude for @TulsiGabbard 's unwavering strength, and I am certain you will all join with me in prayer for a successful treatment, fast recovery and extended life for both of them – filled with abundance and joy. “My rock.” It is well understood. When cancer introduces the frozen moment of fear, it is prayer that battles the dark imaginings and faith that fuels us. There is before the moment of our knowledge, and there is everything that comes next. All else moves in a blur, we become disconnected from daily challenge. When the body is tested, faith and prayer strengthen the soul. Our battle no longer manifests in the business of things, but rather in the spirit of our faith.  “With God,” is not something to say it is the core of how we fight; we lean into the source of all healing. Prayer connects us directly to the God of love who created every cell in our body. In the battle against cancer, prayer is not the last resort it’s the beginning, the front line of hope and healing. Heavenly Father, we have need for You today. Please provide Your healing power and grace upon Abraham Williams, the husband of Tulsi Gabbard. Lord of mercy guide those who will now tend the affliction. We accept Your works through those You guide and love powerfully, completely and unconditionally. Our first, last and final healing is always found in You. We come to You today with our prayers for both Abraham and Tulsi, and we know You hear our prayers just as You understand our faith. We ask for Your comforting embrace of Abraham, Tulsi and those they love. Father of strength, lift the heart of Tulsi Gabbard and fill her with fortitude, courage and the sense of safety. God that holds the stars, we ask for Your healing and grace to cover Abraham; every affliction; every wound; every trepidation and consequence. Thank You for Your mighty power that works through all things. We reach out to You knowing through every struggle Your glory is in command. We ask that You pull our prayers close and extend Your healing power. In Jesus’ name. ~Amen!

I am deeply grateful for the trust President Trump placed in me and for the opportunity to lead @ODNIgov for the last year and a half. Unfortunately, I must submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026. My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. He faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months. At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle.

I’m for conservative values, liberty, small government and America first and the GOP ain’t it. I’ll support Rand Paul, Thomas Massie and any other voice for liberty locally or nationally. I’ll rejoin the party again when it’s America first. Republicans - when you lose badly in the mid terms ask yourself if the Epstein class and Israel’s wars was worth it.

Sen Pedersen is APPALLED by the Supreme Court decision allowing "extreme gerrymandering." Help him achieve a supermajority so HE can engage in redistricting to remove all Republicans from the WA Congressional delegation! The "No Kings" crowd sure loves their tyranny...

@RonWyden What if part of the game is to raise taxes on low skilled workers, knowing that the worth of their labor in a free market won't hold it? What if that is part of the syndicate strategy to oppress workers into unionization?
