So the Toronto Raptors traded the Indiana 2026 first which was top 4 protected for Brandon Ingram and at the time no one could entirely fault them felt like the Pacers team and pick would’ve been late teens or in the 20s. Fast forward a couple months and Haliburton Achilles injury and Myles Turner walks in free agency. That’s a possible top 10 pick in next years draft that Toronto gave up without even knowing and that’s why sometimes they say the best moves are the moves you don’t make Look back at the Jakob trade it’s not to say he’s a bad player, but the timing was awful for such a move it directly impacted the positioning of their pick in the Wemby draft, and cost them a pick in the following draft. If they don’t make the Jakob transaction Higher pick in the Wemby draft Keep your top 10 pick the following year Drafted CMB this year and he was higher on the raptors board than 9th, but wonder how much higher they’d be without Jak as they’d be worse It’s tough to say and talk about the BI transaction as he hasn’t been the healthiest either, but it’s safe to say if he plays you’ll win more games and it’ll impact your draft positioning next year, and having Jak next year will impact you aswell The alternative world in which if you don’t make moves giving up future firsts would’ve had Higher pick in Wemby draft Top 10 pick the following year CMB at 9 this year or an even higher pick Potentially 2 top 10 picks in 2026 Patience is a skill and I hate losing too, but man for that scenario I think most of us would’ve been just fine staying pat
