In principle, I agree that the IPTA quota system should be abolished. Unfortunately, it cannot be done now and that's the bitter truth the Chinese and Indians have to swallow. Why? Firstly, we have to acknowledge that no one has ever tried to solve the problem in the past. Heck, no PM has ever dared to speak about it in the open. Dasar Ekonomi Baru was launched in 1970, 53 years ago. All sorts of Bumiputera programs / policies / schemes were implemented. Where has that taken the Malay community? Look at the picture below and you'll get the answer - nowhere. You might ask why does it matter if the Malays are doing well or not? Why deny us our rights? Because whether you like it or not, this country cannot afford to have it's largest demographic disenfranchised. It is the same in any multi-ethnic country around the world. If you don't believe me, read up on what's happening in India, France, Germany, US, and the UK. How do you think Modi got elected? Why did right wing Hindu nationalists grow? Why did Brexit happen? Why did Trump get elected? Why is the Nazi party gaining ground once again in Germany? Everywhere around the world, when the majority demographic is struggling with economic hardship, and their rights are perceived to be taken away, extremism rises. Malaysia is no different. Do you think it's a coincidence that PAS has grown strong? They have fed on the struggles of the Malays. You may not like PMX's answer, but it is unfortunately the truth. We cannot afford to destabilize the social contract. What we can do is help more deserving Indian and Chinese students. What we can do is fix the economy and uplift the poor from all races. What we can do is improve the lives of ordinary Malaysians and introduce policy changes slowly. It took America 230 years before the first black president was elected. Malaysia is 66 years old. We will get there eventually.
