NEW | The Assembly election in Bengal suggests India is moving from a flawed democracy towards a Russian-style managed democracy, where elections are increasingly engineered to favour the ruling party. Debasish Roy Chowdhury (@Planet_Deb) ✍️ frontline.thehindu.com/politics/manag…

Tier 2 cities have a much better quality of life than Tier 1 cities now.

There’s a reason, @HelleLyngSvends, why I as an Indian don’t crash “Press Briefings” asking uninformed questions about Norway - because I actually know enough to stay silent. You, however, chose to expose both your intellectual bankruptcy and dishonesty by reffing to the Press Freedom Index yet again, an opaque, poorly funded metric that absurdly rates Pakistan as quasi-authoritarian and Qatar as a “full-blown Islamic nation” (both patronising Jihad) above India. That really shows how much of a critical thinker you really are Kudos to @GaurieD for absolutely shredding this Greta Thunberg of journalism, exposing her work as nothing more than cheap activism masquerading as journalism.

The Modi-Meloni “Melody” reel has gone viral globally, and predictably, the opposition is having a meltdown. Because for them, India’s diplomacy must always look apologetic, joyless and insecure. They cannot digest a Prime Minister who can build strategic partnerships, command global respect, strengthen India’s position with Europe, and still connect with people in a language the internet understands. Rahul Gandhi having a meltdown over Modi-Meloni going viral is not surprising. This is a man who has never understood the difference between diplomacy and insecurity. When India’s Prime Minister commands global warmth, Rahul calls it drama. When India builds strategic partnerships, he calls it optics. When India is liked, watched and respected, his ecosystem starts sulking. But before Rahul Gandhi lectures anyone on national interest, Indians should remember the record. This is the man around who went partying after 26/11 in my city Mumbai, when India was still mourning. This is the man who referred to terrorist Masood Azhar as “Masood Azhar ji”. This is the man who called the aftermath of surgical strikes “khoon ki dalali”. This is the man whose party ecosystem repeatedly demanded proof when India hit terror across the border. This is the man who stood with the JNU crowd when Afzal Guru slogans had shaken the nation. This is the man whose party first denied and then admitted his meeting with the Chinese envoy during Doklam stand-off. This is the man who goes abroad without disclosing where money is coming from to fund his trips. So forgive us if we do not take lectures on diplomacy from Rahul Gandhi. Modi’s diplomacy is turning India into a respected global power. Rahul’s politics is still stuck in resentment, entitlement and national self-loathing. There is a term called 'soft-power' in the diplomatic dictionary and the ilk of Rahul Gandhi won't know that because India no longer applies it to the Masood Azhars of the world.

"What unites the New York Times’ farmer-at-the-door, Aftenposten’s snake charmer, La Vanguardia’s cobra-graph, and the BBC’s tweet is systemic, structural inheritance. These are editorial rooms staffed by white Europeans and Americans, trained in journalistic traditions that absorbed Orientalism as neutral background noise, working within institutional cultures that have never seriously interrogated their own colonial assumptions."

CPIML Liberation, West Bengal, (@CpimlWestBengal) has filed a PIL in Calcutta High Court seeking urgent judicial intervention to stop the order issued by the BJP Government invoking an outdated 1950 law to impose severe punitive restrictions on ritual sacrifice of livestock. This is an assault simultaneously on the religious freedom of the Muslim community, on the livelihood of farmers engaged in cattle trade (who are mostly from the Hindu community), on the freedom of citizens to eat according to their choice and on the culinary diversity of West Bengal.

Modi deserves to be humiliated everywhere he goes. He has not given a single press conference in 12 years since he became the Prime Minister. He fails to fulfill the basic transparency and accountability requirements of being a leader. I would like to encourage foreign journalists from other European countries to ask him questions wherever they see him, just like @HelleLyngSvends did. Embarrass him so much that he is forced to show some accountability in front of people. You will be doing great service for India’s progress.

Elderly often have troubles holding their urine. It’s a medical issue and not difficult to understand if one wants to. Prostrate issues, loose bladder n other complications often lead to episodes of incontinence. We need sensitivity and patience. Also, a lot of understanding. In India, bigotry and hate against minorities are add ons.
