@timcairns Well tim if you want all that shite then why dont you go and open it. The Sunday rules should be the exact same as Saturday, bars, shops, the lot. If people choose to go to a food truck they can, if people want to go m&s they can. Let people choose what they want to do.

This is depressing, what a lack of ambition. So we have hoards of tourists (apparently) in Belfast city centre. Let’s put arts and culture events on, run artisan markets where local goods can be sold, pop up play areas, close streets and have food trucks…..no…. Open Marks and Sparks and Primark. What a depressing council we have What about the workers? They have choice to work apparently. Sure, they can’t be forced, but if you’re on a part time contract or zero hours contract are you really saying no? Open the shops, that’s the height of ambition in this city, maybe make the city centre look nicer and people might want to come in!
BBC News NI@BBCNewsNI

Would you like to see the extension of Sunday trading hours? About eight out of 10 people in Belfast are in favour. bbc.in/4395j6t

🚨Thierry Henry on Cristiano Ronaldo tears after winning the Saudi Pro League: 🗣️ “ People see Cristiano Ronaldo crying after winning the Saudi Pro League and some laugh because of where he is playing now. But for me, that moment explains exactly why he became one of the greatest athletes we have ever seen. This is a player who has already conquered football. Champions Leagues, Ballon d’Ors, league titles in England, Spain and Italy, international trophies with Portugal… there is literally nothing left for him to prove to anyone. Yet at 41 years old, he is still celebrating victories with the same emotion, the same fire and the same obsession he had when he was a teenager at Sporting Lisbon. That is not normal. Most players lose that hunger after winning one or two major trophies. Cristiano never lost it. People always talk about talent, but mentality is what truly separates legends from great players. Cristiano trained like every season was his last chance. He treated every game like it mattered. That is why he stayed at the top for almost 20 years while generations of players came and disappeared. To still have that level of passion at his age, after everything he has achieved, is honestly unbelievable. It tells young players that greatness is not only about ability, it is about sacrifice, discipline, consistency and refusing to ever become comfortable. You can love him or hate him, but you have to respect that mentality. Football may never see another competitor like Cristiano Ronaldo again...”

@MHassanFootball Sheer incompetence. Its literally systematic corruption and all you journalist play along with the narrative. Your gonna be the first person singing off the new hymn sheet once the verdict is read out. Until then, your gonna sit and pretend this "incompentence" isnt orcastrated.

Spain’s referees (highest paid in Europe) filed a complaint against Madrid for calling out their sheer incompetence. I wonder what would these referees do if the vice president of their org got paid for two decades to supply reports about them to a certain club under the table.

@ShowMeTeHMoney @KiyanSo Wrong. Salgado left a huge void. During his prime he was top 3 right-backs in Europe. Ramos was never even close to be on Salgado's level (as a right-back obviously).

Hard to know where to start with Carvajal. There's so much to unpack. He's the greatest right-back in Real Madrid history, and came along at a time where we desperately needed a world class right-back. A big game player with reliable two-way production. One goal and assist in Champions League Finals -- both crucial. His insane golazo to win the European Super Cup vs Sevilla. Had a ton of iconic assists. Will always remember his performances putting Luis Diaz and Frank Ribery in his pocket; and his entire 2024 run where he went to another level. The void that Salgado left was huge. We had been waiting for someone like Carvajal for a long time. 6 UCLs, and the best RB in UCL history as well. Death to gluten.

Florentino Perez brought up the Negreira investigation in his press conference on Tuesday. Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira was a referee in LALIGA from 1977 to 1992 and later became the vice president of the refereeing committee in Spain. It emerged in 2023 following an investigation by the Spanish tax office, that Negreira's companies received almost €1.4m from Barca between 2016-2018.

@losblancoswrld Benzema had a lot of hype about him at Lyon. Everyone wanted him. Truth be told people were expecting a mini reincarnation of r9 when he arrived, obviously not the speed but the output. Wonder kid striker that everyone expected him to be scoring 30 plus goals every season.

He is the best striker of his generation. Why am I seeing people saying he was nothing before 2022? Did he do all this in these 4 years after that? Don't be stupid.

@samuel_leeds The min wage wasn't born from ideology, it was born from sweatshops 👀. the "willing buyer, willing seller" theory sounds clean until the Gorilla controls every job in town and the Monkey has rent due 😤.

I don’t understand why we have the minimum wage. It’s a dumb idea. Government shouldn’t be involved if there is a willing buyer / willing seller. Also, employment rights shouldn’t exist. If you aren’t happy, leave. Any good employer will pay what is deserved and have commercial sense to treat valuable staff well.

@PeterMcCormack Option C. Staff member goes somewhere that pays new minimum wage. Buys coffee from places they can afford. A business that nobody wants anymore closes.

Okay, lets play this out sir... - We raise the minimum wage Option A - I let staff go because the business can't afford them, they have no money and still can't afford a coffee. Option B - We raise the minimum wage, shop loses money, we raise prices, they still can't afford the coffee. I wish people like you would read a book rather than so confidently not understanding the problem.
Callum R@GoldRobin_11

@PeterMcCormack What do we do about people on minimum wage who can’t afford rent/basic goods? Maybe the reason people don’t go to your coffee shop is because they don’t have enough money? Do you think at all or just spout drivel?

A minimum wage of £15 would end my coffee shop, it would have to close, as would many other businesses. I’ll explain for the economically illiterate. Staff costs are currently half our costs, a £15 minimum wage is actually more than £15 an hour for the company, because you have to add: - 12.07% holiday - Sick pay - Maternity pay if and when required - National insurance - Pension contributions These costs would mean the shop loses money because remember, energy costs are up, rates are up, regulations are up. Now you can pass these costs onto the consumer - that would mean charging a lot more for coffee, people won’t pay it. The likes of Starbucks and Costa can, because they have economies of scale. The independent doesn’t. Now the little socialist will say well this is your fault, if you can’t run a business that can afford to pay its staff properly, but the little socialist has never run a business and does not understand the dynamics. Now I could pay some staff off and fill those hours myself or reduce us to one staff member during certain periods - but this proves the point that a minimum wage costs jobs. There was a time when these jobs were done by kids, perhaps on the weekend, paid a lower wage, no holiday and no silly employment rights. Perhaps they were even paid cash. The dynamic worked and small businesses like this could operate. It was also a great first job. Sadly now it isn’t worth employing entitlement youngsters at this level of pay. So alas, I don’t need the stress, the business would close, a number of jobs would be lost. Economics is about understanding these dynamics, no vibes. The cost of living is not solved through passing on inflation to the business, it is solved by ending high inflation and creating prosperity. This is what socialists don’t understand, they can’t create prosperity, they can only destroy it.
