Good morning Today for me everything that’s happened this week at Southampton FC is hitting home The #SaintsFc fanbase and all associated should be buzzing and on the way to Wembley for a huge day - gutted 😞 Would be nice if the club actually said or did something and gave those amazing fans some hope ? Where is the leadership?!?

@SirGowen @AdamBlackmore @28jan84 Yep....it's the jouralists' fault that Saints systematically broke the rules, pressured interns into spying despite their reservations and then lied repeatedly to the EFL about the extent of the subterfuge.

@IamBalhamMatt Yes, it's Boro who are trying to get to the PL "by hook or by crook". Not the team that was systematically breaking the rules around observing other teams training and pressuring their interns to carry it out, despite their objections.

You lost 2-1 on the pitch in a match which took place fair and square, and are the sole beneficiary of Southampton’s punishment. The timing of the evidence presented was calculated to ensure Boro were reinstated rather than Hull City, and you’ve been awarded your place in the final not on sporting merit, but on the stroke of a lawyers pen. Fine, by all means try and get to the Premier League by hook or by crook, but footballers who spent their lives on the pitch are bound to dislike that. #HullCity #SaintsFC

Absolutely baffling the shite #boro are getting off ex players and opposing fans for doing nothing wrong. Aye ok lads will forfeit the final yeh 🤷🏻‍♂️😭

@dkaustin87 'Some people get away with wrongdoing so there shouldn't be rules against wrongdoing' is certainly an interesting take.

#saintsfc will get the blame, but the EFL have created this mess of subsequent legal claims. - all teams carry out intelligence - the benefits gained from ‘spying’ are minuscule, football is won on the pitch - clubs & players cheat in all sorts of ways and it goes unpunished

@GeorgeElek @slbsn With Leeds, the moral outrage was off the scale for weeks and the 'not how we do things over here' brigade were out in force But for some reason, despite Saints systematically breaking a specific EFL rule, the narrative has changed to 'it makes no difference/punishment is harsh'

@slbsn When you ask “how we’ve got here” from 2019, it seems pretty clear that Leeds’ punishment was too lenient and they should have been hit with a hefty points deduction, and would be if it happened today. I can’t see it can be the whole basis for arguing disproportionate punishment

Even more lovely comments than usual on this. But nobody is going to convince me that this punishment fits the “crime” especially in a sport riddled with “cheating” in every game Simon Jordan & Stefan Borson EXAMINE Southampton LOSING Spygate Appeal a... youtu.be/ZpXMk0nkmic?si…

@TheFUTSBC @louorns There isn't a precedent from Leeds though. Because it's a different rule. The precedent is that if you cheat in a cup competition, you're kicked out and the team you played against progresses to the next round. That's what has happened to Saints.

And yet the precedent remains We got what was coming, and I hope heads roll I genuinely do But what now ? If Spying equates to expulsion, then how do we square off financial doping ? Leicester win the Championship off the back of a full season of significant overspend… and yet only get a -6 ? Saints get expulsion and -4 for an offence not even recognised outside of the EFL Madness

@TheFUTSBC @louorns Nope. Leeds were guilty of not acting towards clubs in "utmost good faith". A catch all term. Saints systematically broke a rule which explicitly states you can't observe training in the 72hrs prior to a game. The actions may be the same. The context is entirely different.

@Slimtons @louorns They were both guilty of systematic rule breaks Leeds guilty of more regularity.. but before the law was tightened So its an entirely valid comparison

@henno21 @IanDarke Fully agree with this, the amount of money potentially available is irrelevant. The simple facts are that Southampton admitted spying in a cup competition. They were expelled from that cup and the affected party progressed to the next round in their stead.

The Southampton case and size of punishment does set a precedent. If spying can cost potential promotion worth £200m , what happens to clubs found guilty of cooking the books to gain an unfair advantage ? This may or may not include Man City, who vehemently deny all charges.

@louorns Yeah, Simon Jordan did the same. Just being deliberately obtuse, really. The distinctions between being found guilty under a general/catch all rule and being found guilty of systemic breach of a specific rule is clearly obvious.

@saintspins It's not a £200m fine though, is it? You can't lose what you don't have. And Saints admitted to cheating in a cup competition. The standard approach in that situation is that the transgressor forfeits the tie. And the other team progresses to the next round.

If the EFL had any balls whatsoever they would just promote Hull automatically. Putting Boro into the final just create's another headache should they beat Hull, when Hull have been preparing to face us for the last 10 days. £200k for Leeds. £200m for Saints. Farcical.

@a_lister2 The Marco Silva who has 5 points this season against the current top 6, compared to Farke's 9 points? Which Farke has achieved with a lower level of squad quality?

i would hear this talk from a marco sliva but not farke who needed to be on the brink of the sack to find our best fit as squad in the 352 and is a high maintenance manager(overall squad quality has to be a lot higher to do well)
Ali@a_lister2

the ego is crazy for a club that poorly managed the prem the last time not rushing and actually making a squad to push on eventually is exactly what we need and something most fans should be able to tolerate compared to previous yrs of being average/poor in previous szns...

The more I think about the Farke presser the more I think he was challenging the club to match his ambitions, he has been left frustrated after multiple windows when he made it clear he wanted more players and didn’t get them, on each occasion it left him visibly frustrated, clearly now he is sending a message, keep our best players and sign more quality players to take us to the next level ✍️ #lufc

Have the club under the 49ers ownership ever showed signs that they aren’t willing to put the money in signings wise? I know we sold players but that’s because of previous ownerships mistakes. Farke’s had two mega squads in the Championship at us and we spent over 100 mil..

@Strickland__Ben I think expulsion is unlikely if it turns out to be an isolated incident. However, if it can be proven that Saints did this on a consistent basis (as rumoured), across a 19 game unbeaten run where they surged into the playoffs...it calls into question their final league position

@Michael_TSB @BossTHFC No-one really believes that the Nmecha tackle and Romero's tackle are in any way comparable. It's affectation for social media and an inability/unwillingness to accept that they simply haven't been good enough for 36 games.
