I wonder if anyone's written about LLMspeak from a linguistic perspective. This doesn't have a single em dash and nary a "it's not X, it's Y," but you can tell *immediately* that it's an LLM. In the abstract I would not have assumed machine-produced prose would be so obvious

For almost two months, I was convinced my friend group had a separate group chat without me. Plans would get mentioned casually, “oh yeah, like we said earlier”, and I’d just stand there like 🙂 earlier where? If I walked into the room and they stopped laughing, my brain immediately titled it: Season 2: The Quiet Exile. I started analyzing delivery times, inside jokes, who viewed my stories but didn’t reply. Every late response felt intentional. Every “we forgot to tell you” felt strategic. One night I finally joked, “So what’s the name of the secret group chat?” They all looked confused. Turns out there was another group chat, but it was for planning a surprise birthday thing for me. The reason they’d go quiet? They were terrible at lying. The “earlier” conversations? About work, not me. The late replies? Two of them had just started new jobs and one was going through a breakup. Meanwhile, I had already mentally written a betrayal arc, drafted my villain origin speech, and emotionally distanced myself for protection. The stupidest part? Nobody was excluding me. I was just overprotecting myself from a threat that didn’t exist. That’s when I realized, sometimes the only person putting me on the outside… is me.

Look at the men who work 80 hours a week to pull their families out of poverty. They sacrifice their youth, their health, and their passions to build a fortress of comfort for their wives and children. But in doing so, they become strangers to their own homes. The wife complains he is "never present." The kids resent him for missing the soccer games. He is hated for his absence, but his absence is the exact currency that buys their soft, privileged lives. He is the villain in a house he paid for with his own blood. He dies alone in a crowded room, resented by the very people he sacrificed his soul to protect

@utadahikaru In Japan and some western fans yes. It’s to the point where if you stopped a random Japanese adult and asked what Goku’s catchphrase, is… well, they’d probably say “Waku Waku Tsuru-zo” (I’m getting excited!) or some variation… but besides that! It would be ‘Osu! Ora Goku!”

Back in the old days, guys had to fake interest in a serious relationship just to get laid. That’s why they called them “players.” You basically had to trick women into casual sex by acting like you wanted more. These days, it’s flipped.

@TheMysticSSJ I’m glad I’m not the only one who saw this. This entire fight is just “Look at how great Goku is.” Piccolo was outmaneuvered at every turn. It really feels like it was written with the intention of ending the series tbh.

@BlvckBulmaa If Goku is the idealistic Superman we aspire to be more like, then Vegeta is the wall within us we must scale through hard work alone, in order to get closer to that pedestal. For our loved ones. For ourselves.

@BlvckBulmaa Yes. Because that kind of failure is relatable. It’s the story of a man who chased the greatness he thought was promised to him at birth, and came up short every single time. Simultaneously fueled by ego and self loathing, he marches on until he one day wakes up and realizes that

@BlvckBulmaa life didn’t turn out the way he thought it would, and the person he thought he would become is now never going to exist. And despite all that, is still able to find peace.

@GalacticAhab @EmperorBigD @p9cker_girl Roshi’s name isn’t kame-sennin so it makes no sense to call himself that in the dub when he never speaks Japanese. I mean his name isn’t Roshi either, but whatever I guess something has to stand in for it so he isn’t nameless like in Japan.

This is exactly the implication that I was trying to explain in my article. Why is it acceptable for DBZ to get 'dumbed down' and homogenized for Americans when kids form other countries did just fine with the source material? Its insulting how these companies viewed their own customer base in the 80s and 90s. Gross.
Just a guy@justaguy0507

All you’re telling me with this is that the American market is full of idiots cause they apparently needed DB to be turned into a Saturday morning cartoon show so it could be sold to them.

@Key_Diva @G0ffThew No, Standards and Practices is a thing in the US regarding censorship. He’s saying they were free to represent the show as it was made without changing Goku’s name to “Bradley” or make all the blood green or some shit like that. He’s not saying the standards were lower 🤦🏽‍♂️

@G0ffThew Do NOT talk about things that you don't understand...Less strict standards? You know nothing about mexican dub industry and how much impact it had and still have in our country and others that grew up with it. Undermining an industry you know nothing is disrespectful!

This is actually a fascinating example of the benefits of this loose 90s approach to dubbing. Less true to what Toriyama originally made up as he went along, but more effective in setting up the redemptive character arc that Vegeta eventually follows. It makes him more likeable.

@strawberrieslor I’d say it’s not a good indicator of strong mental fortitude, which a man is going to look for. You’re right though, he won’t be triggered. He’ll just know you’re probably going to be a mess and won’t want to invite that trouble into his life. Same goes for men who hate women.

@KennyDa39423732 @Axl_hk She’d rather Gohan die under her protection when the planet is vaporized than the earth be saved, but he’s put into danger he would survive. And then blaming her husband for danger he was put in that was unavoidable no matter what.

I wonder what specifically caused the shift in Chi-Chi's attitude towards martial arts. We can credit a few things; the extremely dangerous 23rd Budokai and becoming a mom for the first time, but I wish we knew MORE.

@Axl_hk Imagine Nappa doesn’t die and they reformed him and his entire character living on earth becomes this like failed Casanova ladies man who can’t get a date. And when he does he ends up with terrible and/or abusive girlfriends. He becomes Krillin before he got with Android 18.

‘ZOOTOPIA 2’ originally had a 4-minute long scene that was a homage of Clarice and Hannibal’s first meeting in ‘SILENCE OF THE LAMBS’ “We did word by word the first scene when Hannibal Lecter meets Clarice… That’s where we go, now we have lost our younger audience members” (Source: variety.com/2025/artisans/…)

@TheDemon_Power @Cosmic2V @Extralongdokkan I mean that’s still a feat. I would have gone with Kid Goku before I read all this because he’s fucking Goku lol but no Kamehameha + Maximum naivety + Debilitating weakness makes it a tough call. If he had at least the Kamehameha I’d probably go with him but idk

@Cosmic2V @Extralongdokkan This is a really good point. If it’s Goku right after the Roshi training, or even after learning the Kamehameha I’d say it’s more of a toss up but yeah, Luffy doesn’t really progress much in strength until Water 7 and he ran through pretty much everyone until Crocodile

@Extralongdokkan It’s between Luffy and Goku but I’ll give it to Luffy just cause Goku’s tail is like a huge weakness and of all people I’d imagine would grab it in a fight it’s Luffy. Not to mention Goku in ep one struggled to lift a car while Luffy is the same strength for half of pre-timeskip.
