@JohnJHarwood I'm old enough to remember Republicans crying over Colin Kaepernick when he took a knee on the field protesting police brutality. It's total hypocrisy with them.

@GroverNorquist Perhaps "if only" the Texas House had a leader who would approve important, credible bills on the floor for debate. @brianeharrison TX State Rep has done more out of session on X by himself than took place in 2025 (three sessions). Brian is our only consistent voice.

Actual property tax rates over the last 20 years in Texas have decreased on average 32%. Effective tax rates over the last 20 years in Texas have decreased on average 63%. If you owned a $100,000 home in 2006 and it was your homestead you were paying on average $2,700 in property taxes ($3,050 if it was not). In 2025 you were paying on that same $100,000 $900 in property taxes for your homestead and $2,100 if it was not. The average tax rate in 2005 was $3.05 per $100 and the average tax rate in 2025 is $2.10 per $100. Call me crazy but it costs more today than it did 20 years ago for insurance, utilities, maintenance, labor, etc. Governor Abbott likes simple people that have no clue to follow him vs. those that just barely scratch the surface to challenge him. Know what else has gone up in that 20 year timeframe - the amount of sales taxes you're paying as those have gone up over 231% - yes 231%. In 2004 the average Texan paid $688 in State Sales Taxes and in 2025 we paid on average $1,582. That's with NO reduction in the Sales Tax Rate in that timeframe - last time the Sales Tax Rate was addressed was in 1990 when it went UP from 6% to 6.25%. Guess where the MAJORITY of the budget surplus in Texas comes from? SALES TAXES. Guess how much of the surplus comes from property taxes - ZERO! Not one penny!!

You first, stop paying your property taxes and see what happens to you - you go first. Come back and tell us what happens. If it's a scam, as you claim, you should have no problems. But if it's not - as all 50 States have it and it's withstood every legal challenge - you'll lose your property and then can come on here and cry about how unjust it is - but still be without your property and no recourse.

If Texas politicians are serious about property tax “relief” (should be ELIMINATION)… Then why in the world are we waiting until NEXT YEAR to pass it?! Call a special session and pass it NOW!! Why isn’t everyone in TxLege joining my call for IMMEDIATE action?

🚨 ABBOTT SECURES MAJORITY FOR MAJOR TEXAS PROPERTY TAX OVERHAUL Gov. @GregAbbott_TX announced Monday that 88 Republican House incumbents and nominees have signed his five-point reform pledge — with 76 likely winners providing a working majority. This paves the way for what he calls the biggest property tax overhaul in state history when the next session begins. dallasexpress.com/state/abbott-s…

NEW: Steve Sarkisian took a shot at Texas Tech while discussing how the College Football Playoff Committee factors strength of schedule👀 “There's a team in our state that plays in another conference that has a schedule that I would argue if I played with our twos and our threes, we could go undefeated, and they'll probably make the CFP this year.” (via @AnwarRichardson) on3.com/college/texas-…

CUTTING PROPERTY TAXES 🙌💯 Texans are now one step closer to the biggest property tax overhaul in STATE HISTORY. With 88 Texas House Republican incumbents and nominees committing to Governor Abbott’s five-point property tax reform plan, there is now enough support in the Texas House of Representatives to DELIVER overdue property tax relief during the 2027 Texas Legislative Session. Problem with that idea - we already tax most grocery items and we definitely tax all clothing items. So your plan - let's reduce our sales tax base even further, take further tax revenue out of the stream, get rid of property taxes (that's $82 billion annually) - and we'll just click our heals together like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz and the hundreds of billions of dollars will just magically appear? Sales taxes are by definition the most regressive tax known to man. It takes X amount of dollars to live for every individual. If you make X and I make XXXX amount, you're paying all of your X to live (with higher sales taxes, higher prices) and I'm paying only one X to live and can keep my other 3 X's and invest, buy real estate, etc. That by definition is regressive.

@StephenDunson @brianeharrison Sales tax with exclusions for food and clothing are not especially regressive. Everyone likes to crow about sales tax being regressive, but in all practical purposes if you exclude just a few staples it is the most fair tax out there because it's controllable.

So you don't have anything, that's what you're saying? Where's your data to support your position? Any proof at all? Please cite it if you have it. And no, I'm not going to go chase it down - you posted it, I called you out on it - now post where your data comes from or your point is mute.

School property taxes are half of your property tax bill. Texas should fund ISD’s through other means and not property taxes. This would cut everyones tax bill in half. Also is more fair since not everyone has a kid in the public school system but still is required to pay for it. Texas has sufficient revenue from other sources to do this.
