It also dawned on me at Google I/O that the cost of the DMA to Apple might be that the engineers that otherwise would’ve been improving the App Store were instead working on DMA compliance. Google, on the other hand, didn’t have much work to comply and just announced a bunch of great Play Store features last week. This is another “I sure hope Apple proves me wrong at WWDC” moment. With the recent changes Apple made to the rules in the EU, I have to take back my comments that no one should accept the new terms. Apple has eliminated the risk in accepting the new terms. The only catch is that you can’t revert if you’ve used 3rd party payments or released your app in a marketplace. Which makes sense, unwinding that is much more complex. Apps in the small business program only get a 2% discount by accepting the new terms (15% to 13%) so there’s not a huge incentive there, but still, free money. But for apps that are no longer in the small business program, but have yet to hit 1M annual installs in the EU, it’s a 10% savings (30% to 20%). And then you can just switch back when you start getting close to that magic 1M annual install number.

I've said for 20 years that daylight saving was not just complete BS but even counterproductive EU has said for 10 years they are looking at canceling it. How we make this stop without politicians spending another decade and millions on an obviously good idea?
