Mixed news from #mbrrace. Good progress on twin survival. But tragically 33 more UK babies stillborn in 2016 than 2015, with the rate increasing for the first time in years (by 1.5%). Need to get serious about addressing preterm & antepartum stillbirth to meet government ambition
@hSafetyIB If @hSafetyIB believe that only 1000 babies die or suffer brain injury each year, you have to wonder about their investigation skills... hopefully the new recruits can help!
@JamesTitcombe Actually, it will make a big difference on reducing brain injuries and a small impact on saving lives. Look at the scope. The majority of preventable deaths of healthy, full term babies are excluded.
@EachBabyCounts Thanks, I will do that, although I can't think of a good reason why you would avoid giving a straightforward answer in public. For the record, the online newsletter has NOT been changed either and still contains the false information.
@EachBabyCounts Thanks, factual accuracy is essential with so many dead or stillborn babies excluded. So if any stillbirth is reported to EBC, it will be investigated by HSIB? (The government paper suggests differently - reporting isn't the barrier, its the current EBC eligibility criteria).
@EachBabyCounts Please can you confirm whether this newsletter is accurate? (My understanding is that sadly it does not cover all stillbirths, in fact it excludes the vast majority). Thank you.
@vasapraevia Definitely a big problem. Just to clarify, that isn't the proportion of 'unexplained' deaths - it's the proportion deemed ineligible (for which you might read unworthy) of independent investigation, in the eyes of RCOG and the government.
@BBCNews@RCObsGyn Glad this has been corrected. But please stop being blind to the big picture - 95% of stillborn babies need to count too #EVERYbabycounts
