My standing offer to all searchers… I will happily review your deals for you and help you conceptualize your structure, highlight risks, areas to dig into, etc. I spoke last week at the @VeteranETA virtual meetup and met Rob there. An email, review, and 40-minute call later the deal looked substantially different. Here’s to hoping it works out, but if not, you’re on the right path!
Rob Brooks@therobertbrooks

Exactly 1 month after finishing @SMBootcamp_ I have submitted my first LOI. Coming into this world of ETA my assumption was that I could learn things on my own, but given I am a full-time self-funded searcher, and wanted to accelerate things, I decided to give @Sam_Rosati and @ChandlerReedSMB a chance. I can say with 100% confidence there is no way I would even been at the table on this deal without the lessons and tools given from the boot camp but also the network of amazing partners and deal team members that came from it. Thank you @sbabmarks, @AdamMarkleySMB and John McLeod for diving in with me on the deal. I worked what feels like 50 different ways of structuring this to land on a final approach, due to mitigating customer concentration risk, and couldn't have gotten there without you. I can't see the future and whether or not the sellers will accept my terms, but at least I know if they do I will be in a good spot to protect the companies future. @JermanMichael - you're on deck if the sellers accept! In the meantime, on to the next!

If you have kids ages 8-18, this is one of the best $8 you can spend. It's a fun card game, easy to pick up, and it's hard for that one person in your family who "always wins" to always win at this one. And it's social and you laugh a lot.

@STLChrisH Nice will check this out. Have you read Empire of the Vampire? Highly entertaining if you don’t mind a little grim dark.

My bookshelf has 1000 half-read business books. Most are brutally painful to get through, and 3x as long as they need to be. On the other hand… I will FLY through a good sci-fi or fantasy book. Reading in bed until midnight. This book series has been incredibly popular:

🚨 Big news! We just dropped the 2025 Edition of the @smblawgroup Letter of Intent (LOI) template. If you want a copy, just reply below, and I’ll DM you the download link. This template has been battle-tested in hundreds of deals, representing over $1 billion in closed transactions. Over the years, we’ve seen the same issues pop up... unclear terms, mismatched expectations, and other common headaches that cause busted deals. We’ve taken everything we’ve learned, fixed those problems, and built it into this updated version. It’s simple, clear, and designed to avoid the usual roadblocks. If you’re working on a deal, this could save you a ton of time and hassle. Let me know if you want it... I’m happy to share!

@financeguy725 What’s a typical scenario for why a borrower wouldn’t be paying their loan in such a low LTV financing?

let's take a kinda hypothetical, but actually pretty representative deal that we're closing out of my fund next week. for the sake of brevity, let's ignore what happens if we get the real estate (obviously a very profitable outcome here) rough numbers below:

@YourDealTeam For more blue-collar sellers you have to get out of banker-mindset and ask good questions that allow them to talk about how great their business is. It's often their life's passion so you need to figure out how to get them to a point where they can't stop telling you about it.

Interviewed an Analyst the other day and asked these situational questions: How will you handle working with sellers well into their 50s/60s who come from blue-collar backgrounds? How will you convey to a broker that you are passing on a deal while preserving the relationship?

Genuinely sick of the racist trope that “Elon Musk is an African American.” While he is from an African nation, he is a white man in a global system that prioritizes whiteness. You do not see black men walking into tech companies and firing the staff. Ask yourself why.
