A new potential treatment for peanut allergy is moving closer to @FDA review. Viaskin®, a skin patch developed by @DBVTechnologies, uses an innovative approach called epicutaneous immunotherapy (EPIT™) to deliver small amounts of peanut protein through the skin, aiming to desensitize the immune system over time.
Currently, the treatment is being studied specifically in children ages 4–7 with results expected later this year.
The FDA recently confirmed that the safety data from the current trial and its follow-up study are sufficient to support a request for FDA approval, potentially accelerating the review timeline. If approved, this patch could offer families a non-invasive option for managing peanut allergy, helping to expand food allergy treatment options.
At FARE, we’re inspired by the scientific advancements in food allergy treatment and hopeful for the positive impact they may have on those managing food allergy. #foodallergy
