This week at the UK Global Health Summit, we had the opportunity to hear from @iamwinny_ , ONE UK Youth Ambassador, on why young people are essential to shaping the future of global health. In her words: "Young people in global health have a lot of energy and urgency. They are not waiting to be invited to the table. They are literally creating the tables themselves." We're delighted to feature Winifred's blog on our website, reflecting on the vital role of diaspora health workers and the power of collaboration in building stronger, more equitable health systems. Antimicrobial Resistance (#AMR) remains a major threat to global health security. But the Commonwealth Partnerships for Antimicrobial Stewardship (CwPAMS) programme has shown how targeted investment in the health workforce can drive measurable improvements. The programme, funded by the @DHSCgovuk Fleming Fund was delivered by @THETlinks and the @CW_Pharmacists. Today’s session brought together participants from the scheme to reflect on, and celebrate, its impact since 2018 and to consider how the programme’s legacy can strengthen future antimicrobial stewardship efforts. The session launched the Impact Report which you can read here: globalhealthpartnerships.org/our-work/grant… #GlobalHealth #UKGlobalHealthSummit

Day 2 of the #UKGlobalHealthSummit had a powerful and emotional closing. @BeccyCooper4Lab and @monicabeharding spoke with conviction, honesty, and heart. There were moments in the room that were hard not to feel. A recognition of what the @NHSuk owes to the world. A call to move into responsibility. And a clear, unambiguous message to international health workers: what you do matters. Not as a footnote to global health but as its future. Thank you to both MPs. 🙏 #GlobalHealth #HealthSystemsStrengthening #NHS #ExpertsInOurMidst

🗣️ @iamwinny_, @ONEintheUK Youth Ambassador, on diaspora youth: “We understand the health realities in our countries. And we understand structural barriers in countries like the UK. Therefore, we can design health interventions that are locally relevant but globally informed.”

Day 2️⃣ of the UK Global Health Summit has just seen a fascinating and wide-ranging session: Harnessing Diaspora Engagement. Drawing on recent research and lived experience, this session explored how diaspora communities are contributing to health system resilience in fragile and conflict affected settings. The panel, moderated by Israa Mohammed, Chair of Global Health Partnerships Cymru, also reflected on their personal experiences and the service delivery benefits of diaspora engagement in the UK and other contexts. Taking part was @iamwinny_ who has written this guest blog for us about her own experiences of youth diaspora engagement, and leadership.  Read more here: globalhealthpartnerships.org/harnessing-dia… #UKGlobalHealthSummit #GlobalHealth #Diaspora #ExpertsInOurMidst

Today at the UK Global Health Summit 2026 at the Royal College of Physicians, we held a great discussion on strengthening health systems through global partnerships. I shared Uganda’s experience on how partnerships have helped build resilient systems, including strengthening our laboratory capacity. I emphasized that effective partnerships must be built on mutual respect, enabling beneficiary countries to set their own priorities for sustainable and impactful health outcomes.

The opening session didn't shy away from the big picture - exploring how financial and political turbulence is reshaping global health and development right now. Speakers laid out the urgent realities facing governments and partners amid a deepening crisis. But alongside the challenges came something just as important: a genuine sense of opportunity. Bold, coordinated action can still protect hard-won progress and open the door to new solutions. #UKGlobalHealthSummit #GlobalHealth
