The Constitution guarantees to states a “Republican Form of Government.” This means gerrymandering that favors Republicans is constitutional, while gerrymandering that favors Democrats is not.

I’m very pleased to announce I was published in Law & Liberty, a leading magazine of the American legal Right. I discuss John Adams’s evolving views of Catholicism and how it provides a microcosm of the macro changes in the American Mind wrought by the Revolution. Huzzah!

My first reaction any time someone complains (or praises) a SCOTUS decision: “did you read the opinion?” My second is “what part of the text, history, or precedent did they interpret incorrectly and why?”
Thomas Jipping@TomJipping

Speculation about results is the WRONG way to evaluate a Sup Ct decision. The ONLY standard is whether the Court impartially interpreted and applied the relevant law. Don't waste time complaining about today's VRA decision w/out showing how the Court got it wrong on the law.

Holy moly! "Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, 52 U. S. C. §10301 et seq., was designed to enforce the Constitution—not collide with it. Unfortunately, lower courts have sometimes applied this Court’s §2 precedents in a way that forces States to engage in the very race-based discrimination that the Constitution forbids." The Supreme Court ends racist redistricting. Major win for the Fourteenth Amendment. Justice Alito writes for a six justice majority. This means States across the country can eliminate race-based districts. Huge!

GOP Rep. Don Bacon: "I think it's a little silly. We laughed at Russia when they had pictures of Lenin and Stalin everywhere. China had pictured of Mao everywhere. North Korea has Kim Jong Un. We're America and I think we do less of that."

HEGSETH: Their nuclear facilities have been obliterated SMITH: Whoa whoa whoa whoa. We had to start this war, you just said, because the nuclear weapon was an imminent threat. Now you're saying it was completely obliterated? HEGSETH: They had not given up their *ambitions* SMITH: So Operation Midnight Hammer accomplished nothing of substance HEGSETH: You're missing the point

Lots of bipartisan standing applause when King Charles thanks the room full of US politicians for "welcoming us to the United States to mark this semi- quincentennial year of the Declaration of Independence." He also received strong applause when he said: "We meet, too, in the aftermath of the incident not far from this great building that sought to harm the leadership of your nation and to foment wider fear and discord. Let me say with unshakeable resolve, such acts of violence will never succeed."
