Amazon Game Studios has cancelled its Lord of the Rings MMO.
Announced in May 2023 in partnership with Embracer, the project was still in very early pre-production.
The decision follows Amazonโs major layoffs last October, which scaled back several first-party AAA and MMO.
The studio says it continues exploring a new game experience set in Tolkienโs Middle-earth.

Australia enacted gun control laws in 1996 after 35 people were killed in a shooting. It only took ONE shooting for politicians to protect their citizens and implement gun control. They immediately saw a sharp decline in homicide and suicide rates via guns. This is the first mass shooting Australia has had in decades.
Since 2014 almost SIX THOUSAND people have died from mass shootings in the US. Donโt you dare use this tragedy to try and insinuate gun control does not work. More guns is never the solution.

In case you were wondering, Pete didn't just ask AI to make him a militant turtle shooting civilians.
Franklin the Turtle is actually a Canadian children's book figure followed by millions of kids. He's also trademarked and copyrighted.
Which means Pete here just opened himself, and the US government at large because of the use of his government account, to exposure for civil liability for copyright and trademark infringement that causes actual damage to a brand.
