Now, TMM speaks out to refute the misleading claims of the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) that it had been ensuring "appropriate medical attention" for Sorio. They also condemn the apparent collusion between the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco (PCG-SF), which has jurisdiction over Washington State, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Sorio, a 37 year-old Filipino migrant, remains in an unstable medical condition. Aside from developing ulcerative colitis—which increases risk for colon cancer if left untreated—a part of his foot was amputated in October and he is now exhibiting symptoms of pulmonary embolism, which would be further aggravated by a long-haul flight. After nationwide protests and medical testimonies, Sorio was deemed medically "unfit to fly" by the Philippine Airlines' (PAL) medical team prior to the departure of his Manila-bound flight out of Seattle-Tacoma International yesterday, December 7. PAL's medical assessment is in line with the medical opinions of several health professionals in TMM, and directly counters ICE's own medical assessment, which the Philippine government uncritically accepted as true. TMM and its allied medical professionals assert that this is a direct result of the medical neglect he has faced in ICE detention. ##

READ: Tanggol Migrante Press Release on Philippine National Deported to Eswatini Tanggol Migrante Movement condemns the ineptitude of the Philippine government in being able to protect its own citizens even in spite of pronouncements indicating their concern for Filipinos abroad , and demands immediate action be taken to ensure the release and safe repatriation of its national in Eswatini as well as the prevention of all third country deportations for Filipinos.

The protest ended with a display of righteous rage as attendees slung mud and stomped on large cardboard cutouts of the heads of corrupt Philippine politicians, including President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Vice President Sara Duterte, Tess Lazaro, and Hand Leo Cacdac.

During the program, Philippine government officials, including Paolo Mapula, entering and exiting the Consulate were met with protestors’ chants. Mapula was the PCGNY Vice Consul at the time $10,000 in Assistance to National funds were promised, but never delivered, to Jovi and Dhenmark—two Filipino certified nursing assistants from New Jersey who were detained by ICE and eventually returned back to the Philippines.
