Hey Twitter! We haven't shared much here but we have been anything but idle. For the past six months, our union has been bargaining for a new contract that answers the issues we have and reflects the strength of the growing media union movement. Here's an update 🧵:

We are pleased that @condenast has quietly instituted a salary floor of $56.5k/year for all U.S. employees. Like expanded parental leave, vacation rollover, and ending NDAs, this change is a result of our union’s wins, not a goodwill gesture by Condé. That’s the union difference.

It’s been five years since our formerly family-owned newspaper was bought by the chain that is now called Gannett. This week, Gannett marked that anniversary by telling us that our reporter vacancy would not be filled, despite previously promising that it would be.

First day at the table negotiating our new contract!

Today, we start bargaining with @Gannett for a new, equitable contract, one that will support our members and strengthen the foundation of local journalism in Rochester. With the support of the @GannettUnion, @nyguild, and @newsguild, we vow to fight the good fight.

We asked Vox Media Union members what the union means to them and how it's impacted their lives since we secured our first contract. The response was overwhelming and heartwarming.
