@anna_sullivan_ Also, if you have separated bike paths and there is a car waiting to turn towards you (right turn), make eycontact before crossing. I’ve been hit by drivers not looking and my wife and I have had several close calls. This goes for walking too

@anna_sullivan_ If it’s over 35 mph I either stay away or get on the sidewalk. I know that’s dangerous, riding on the sidewalk, but people will drive 55 in a 35 and it’s insane.

I am considering buying a bike to get around. Tips on overcoming my fear of getting obliterated by a car? ☺️

@RaleighGov I hit a number of bike lane obstructions on my bike ride this morning; cars, trucks, company vehicles, and giant piles of uncollected leaves were all over the bike lanes. Can I do anything about them? Can I report them to someone somehow?

@evanpeterjones Gotta go with the #solarpunk mantra: “demand utopia; the only alternatives are denial and despair”. Also the right has been talking about civil war since 2008.

And tech twitter is still talking about whether you need to devote your whole life to work in order to build “great” things? I really feel like we’ve come full circle. Great time to leave this site. ✌️

It's a good reminder that no matter that any time you have car infrastructure mix with non-car infrastructure you're gonna have a bad time. Cars are a necessary evil in many cases, but they should absolutely be avoided at all costs. #fuckcars #WarOnCars

The car continued to pull forward after I hit them, stopping in the intersection, almost being hit by the car they were trying to cut off. I made some rude gestures, made sure me and the bike were OK and got out of there. Though in hindsight I should have kept my cool and stayed.

Well, I've officially been in a collision with a car while riding a bike. Some sedan decided they could right-on-red if they were quick, and didn't look at oncoming sidewalk traffic. They pulled out in front of me and I didn't have time to stop before hitting their side door.

@RaleighGov Glad no one was injured. Wish there was a way to keep cars from crashing into fucking buildings. Maybe the driver would have taken a light rail had it been available

After an unfortunate incident involving a driver hitting a local cookie store with a vehicle, the Raleigh Fire Department had to shut down the business for one day due to unsafe building status. Realizing that the baked goods would go to waste, the business gave them to the RFD.

Maybe a hot take, but God I hate truncated terms like #i18n, #i10n, and #a11y. They're like acronyms (famously awful to work with) except even when used in a sentence it's not always clear what the speaker means unless you know the term ahead of time.

@Rajshrik1 @cnni That’s a long time to cycle, 15-60 miles depending on speed. I wish I could cycle for that long a time tbh. I typically just go 20-45 minutes into the city, about 5 miles.
