I have exciting news! A new research project that I'm part of has just received funding and will be going ahead. The project is Coercive Control and Transforming Practices of Power: Understanding the Experiences and Needs of Child Victims-Survivors (CAPUCS)

Brilliant work @SEAresource. This is an important step to broaden understandings of #domesticabuse & improve safety & justice. It is also vital that we see fully funded services that work in a coordinated way to ensure that #CCB is recognised by all agencies involved.

A huge step forward, the Controlling or Coercive Behaviour offence now extends to cover post-separation abuse! This amendment to the Domestic Abuse Act was led by @SEAresource + the voices of the Experts by Experience who they work alongside. Thank you to all who fought for this.

#familycourt needs to stop using the term “high conflict” it insinuates that each party is equally contributing to the problems and that it’s a communication problem between parties. Call it what it is, #coercivecontrol by a partner which is #DomesticAbuse #kilmerclassaction

In an adult relationship, controlling access to the toilet, controlling when someone eats or drinks and controlling what someone wears is considered abuse: coercive control, and it has been a crime since 2015. It seems to be the norm within the school system.

@DrEmmaKatz When I realised that their withholding of our child’s asthma medication post-separation was an attempt to cause fear in me, chaos within myself and child’s life and to regain power and control over me and hence ensure my compliance.

Did there come a moment when you were being abused by a 'partner' or family member where you kind of shifted from seeing them as a person who was behaving badly sort of by accident to an abusive enemy intent on harming you? What impacts did that shift in perception have?

We need to understand the complexity of domestic abuse: A 🧵 Domestic abuse doesn't always look the same, and we need to be aware of how can manifest differently for different people & not be rigid in our thinking.

@CCChatMagazine Good point. I feel that it’s getting worse - #coercivecontrol being now well understood and defined in law suggests a system that has to push back because systems/societies themselves are entrenched in CC and those in power need to hold on to power and profit.

@ThriverPower No. It’s push back from powerful abusers who rely on courts and NDAs to silence victims who can weaponise the intrinsic division within domestic abuse sector between those who will only consider abuse *real* if evidenced by physical violence versus psychological violence.
