@_cde @catchans I can’t do what I do at a booth. Now, I could get a booth, that I don’t need because I wouldn’t be at it, raise my prices to cover the booth & hotel. But I’d be taking that booth from an artist who actually needs it for their income. My rates are low to avoid a booth I don’t need

@TightPhoto @catchans So does the painter not also pay for a hotel? Pay to attend? Pay to travel? Pay for their equipment? What about the merch vender? Custom Plushie sewer? 3d fabrication artist? Why do you as a business deserve special treatment?

Photographers charging cosplayers 50, 60, 100 dollars for a con photoshoot are taking advantage of cosplayers and conventions. Leaching off of the fact that someone else is paying for space and gathering people and profiting when others have to pay for that right (artist/dealers)

im not sure how to even reply to this anymore because there is no way to talk to someone who cannot even seem to fathom why 99% of the replies here are saying this is a bad take. Question for you: where does it end? There are cosplayers who go around offering to step on people or say certain phrases for money. Should they pay for a specific space thru the con to do this? At anime expo, I saw a girl who was offering $10 makeup mistake fixes! these cons have armor fixes, but never for makeup or wigs! Should she have to pay for such a tiny rate that could save someone's day? Should these photographers just not be paid for these services that are mutually agreed upon between both parties before hand? I have never been harrassed by a photographer at an event for money for photos. I have had some ask to take free ones. Should they pay for the space? Or no just because they aren't charging anything? You're saying that these photographers are taking advantage of people for charging....up to $200? You are infantilizing the entire cosplay community by acting like cosplayers are easy to take advantage of/don't know their worth/the worth of photographers. If you had said $400+ maybe more would've agreed with you. But any photographer charging $50 for cosplay photos should up their rates, and you should be thankful to work for tbh.

@catchans I pay for a hotel. I pay to attend the convention. I pay for travel. I pay for my equipment. At what point do I charge for hours of my time and art? This is a ridiculous post. This is literally a snack in the faces to the photographers who have created art for you.

And no, I'm not saying you shouldn't pay a photographer, there are situations where that makes sense. But other small businesses have to pay to be able to make money off of the con. Should be the same for photogs charging money to shoot in the con space 🤷‍♀️
