Neural networks are so insanely stupidly simple conceptually it's basically magic how useful they are. literally just multiplying arrays of numbers by more arrays of numbers. you have number X and you multiply by random Y until you get the Z you want. That's it. I'm not kidding

People who say gaming directly, ideologically, stems from casino gambling as some kind of own on the medium aren't thinking big enough tbh. Gambling was always just weaponized fishing

Currently have a serviceable control scheme for my Kart racer. Still has some jank to it, but it's probably good enough to start building on. #gamedev

First attempt at physics based controls. Extremely janky, but I'm glad to be at the point where I can really start to experiment. #gamedev

Added collision loading and distance calculation to my engine. Now I can model levels in blender. Next, I'm going to implement a slightly more physics-based player controller. #gamedev

Implemented gltf model loading for my engine. No support for skinning and animations yet. It does support textures, but I haven't textured this model yet. #gamedev

@RobinPoedev It's like when you see an ad on TV for a new TV, and they show the all these vibrant colours like "Isn't it so much better than your TV? Isn't new technology amazing?" Like chill dude you just turned up the saturation

@Jonathan_Blow @Enkaybee I've often made this argument in the past, but when we start talking about universes very different to our own, you can probably come up with a "universe" that can contain a simulation of itself, or even infinitely many.

@Enkaybee BTW if this is the hypothesis, it invalidates most of the reasoning the simulation hypothesis people make around a "nested stack of simulations", because the simulated universe has to become much simpler at each level of the hierarchy.

The amount of "computation" required to simulate quantum mechanics on one particle for a tiny amount of time is truly ludicrous, essentially infinite. It cannot be done by present or future humans for any definition of "computation" we now recognize... x.com/martinmbauer/s…
Martin Bauer@martinmbauer

The computer scientist understands how closely simulations can resemble everyday reality, the physicist understands that the Universe, on closer inspection, does not

any artists bored enough to want to make some art for my crappy horror game? I can't really offer much in return aside from credit, but it would be nice to de-AI the game if at all possible. It's the spooky's jumpscare mansion clone I posted a couple of weeks ago

@its_bvisness I ended up giving up on that route when I ran into affine texture warping and didn't know what to do about it. It goes to show how frustrating it is when your indivisible elements of knowledge are so high level. For me, texture interpolation was indivisible beyond passing UVs

@its_bvisness This point was one of the things that made me drop graphics programming for ~9 years. I wrote my own cpu "vertex shader" pipeline to use the divide by z method when I was 17 because I didn't understand how a projection matrix could possibly do a division and NO ONE EXPLAINED IT

@wookash_podcast Reminds me of how they pre-calculated occlusion in crash bandicoot. Naughty dog could do it that way because the camera ran on a fixed track. How do they do it in UE, where the camera has 6 degrees of freedom? Must be some crazy data structure. all-things-andy-gavin.com/2011/02/04/mak…

The concept that with Nanite-style virtualized geometry you get to the point, where triangles approximate pixels, with overdraw reduced to ~zero = which means you have ~constant body of work per frame, no matter the scene, is just crazy. I can't get over it, how cool this is

@adinolfi I was imagining a guy the other day. He writes books that no one reads. One day, he becomes incredibly famous an everyone reads his books. Did his books suddenly become good? Did they become more valuable? Is the time and effort suddenly justified?

@DirtyBeastGames @JonasTyroller I think that puzzles in puzzle games and puzzles in non-puzzle games are completely different things. That probably sets people up with the wrong expectations.

@TimbleTam @JonasTyroller Oh yeah, I'm sure it's a positive for most who enjoy the genre. He was asking for people who typically don't enjoy. I find that despite my wide range of genre enjoyment, including puzzles in other genres, I am relatively avoidant with puzzle games.
