He was the QB coach and OC. He gets credit for Lock’s development😂
Hendon before Heupel 2020 9th 5int on 65%.
Hendon 2021 with Heup 31td 3int on 68%. Of course coach’s need players to play, but time after time QB’s grow when Heupel is there coach. And sure Pruitt recruited him, but he never coached him.
There are literally 0 red flags when it comes to Heupel coaching QB’s.

@BadDayHatCoTenn CJH wasn’t the head coach at Mizzou. Hendon was good bc Hendon was good. Pruitt evaluated Hendon and brought him here, CJH chose Joe twice over him. We handled this as best we could, but it’s embarrassing and there have been many red flags with CJH. Both can be true.

I can almost guarantee you if you went to practice and watched Joe Milton throw the football you’d start him over a lot of NFL guys solely based on talent.
And once Hendon had the started job he never lost it. So idk when he chose Milton over Hooker a second time. Maybe I’m wrong and just don’t remember.
The 2022 South Carolina loss sure sucked but when a team probably has your signals you’re not going to win.
2024 Arkansas I can show you more than a few plays were Nico missed wide open throws. Like I said before coaches need players. Heupel can dial up stuff with the best on the offensive end, but you need a guy that will connect on the wide open deep ones. I wouldn’t blame that one on Huep.

We lost a QB. His production from last season which we made the playoffs isn’t going to be hard to make up. Is Nico very talented? Absolutely. Can Heupel win football games without Nico? Absolutely.

Yea if Nico hits on deep balls he’s capable of. We beat bama by 3 scores and blow Arkansas out. But even besides that. Every year under Heupel statistically QB play has been good-great.
I’m not worried about who our QB is going to be. Like every QB heupel has coached the QB has been good-great.

@TomBombaVOL @BadDayHatCoTenn I was in fact around for all those guys, and I find that interesting because not a single one of them was a heupel quarterback. You are getting away from the point. Maybe I worded it wrong, but HEUPEL will not go into a season without a QB he thinks can win.

Inherited Gabriel? Heup got hired late 2017 at UCF and Gabriel’s first year was 2019.
Drew Lock before Heup in 2015:
4td 8int on 49%
Drew Lock when Heupel was there in 2017: 44td 13int on 58%
Look at Hendon Hookers development.
Gabriel’s freshman year was 29td 7int on 59%.
Heupel can coach QB’s. That’s one thing you can’t take from him. My big questions was if he could handle being a SEC head coach. And I think he just answered that question with how he handled this whole situation the past few days. I’ve been all in on heup but really believe he’s the man for the job now. He’s a football guy and loves to compete.

Please go back and look at what Heupel has done with QB’s throughout his coaching career and reask that question.

Not lost in the Iamaleava saga is that Tennessee AG sued the NCAA last year for “unlawful enforcement” and won (injunction granted) after his recruitment was scrutinized and he was on the cusp of being declared ineligible by the NCAA. A little more than a year later, he’s gone.

Good “business” doesn’t hire “bad candidates” from the start. It’s embarrassing we put ourselves in this position at all and now are out the expected QB1 4 months prior to the season. Not ideal, even tho we handled it best we could.

From the outside looking in, I think this is a great look for Tennessee. You all didn’t cave to a father’s demands, plus You severed a potential toxic situation. Use the NIL savings towards athletes who appreciate it.

but I kinda commend him/them for putting the foot down and saying nah….theres room for improvement, if he had shown he was worth a raise they probably would’ve stroked the check
