NEW EBOLA OUTBREAK: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially declared the current Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). This rare and complex situation involves the Bundibugyo strain, reminding us once again of the fragility of global health security. THE CURRENT SITUATION Centered in the Northeast DRC, the outbreak has already seen over 240 reported cases and 80 deaths. While it hasn't reached pandemic proportions yet, health officials are sounding the alarm due to: - The Rare Strain: The Bundibugyo virus currently has no approved vaccine or specific treatment. - Rapid Onset: Symptoms can mirror the flu initially (fever, muscle pain, headache) but can escalate rapidly to vomiting, diarrhea, and internal/external bleeding. - High Mortality: This strain can have a mortality rate as high as 50%. WHY GLOBAL VIGILANCE MATTERS With more than a dozen outbreaks in the region over the last 50 years, including the devastating 2018–2020 period, the international community’s response in the coming days is critical. Swift action in containment, tracking, and public health education is the only way to prevent regional spread. Building Resilient Health Systems This outbreak serves as a stark reminder of the need for: 1. Strengthened Infrastructure: Improving local healthcare facilities to manage sudden surges. 2. Continued Research: Investing in vaccines and treatments for rarer viral strains. 3. Public Awareness: Ensuring communities have access to accurate information on hygiene and early detection. Global health is a shared responsibility. The next few weeks will be crucial in determining whether this outbreak is contained or if it spirals further. What are your thoughts on how the international community can better prepare for rare viral outbreaks like this? #GlobalHealth #PublicHealth #EbolaOutbreak #WHO #HealthcareInnovation #DRC #HealthAwareness #TrustCharitosHospital

Nigeria has received its first batch of Lenacapavir, a revolutionary injection that prevents HIV/AIDS. The Federal Capital Territory Administration commenced the rollout of Lenacapavir in Abuja on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, as part of efforts to reduce new infections and strengthen Nigeria's HIV response. The rollout covers eight states in total: Anambra, Ebonyi, Gombe, Kwara, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Benue and the FCT. Here is what you need to know: - You take the injection once every six months, just twice a year, and it protects you against HIV. - This is a preventive intervention, not a treatment. According to Temitope Ilori, Director-General of NACA, it is designed to expand access to innovative HIV prevention options. - Pregnant women are NOT advised to take it. Although global trials suggest the drug is largely safe, there is insufficient safety data to support its use during pregnancy. - This does NOT replace abstinence or safe practices. Even with the injection, reckless behaviour can expose you to other diseases like Hepatitis B. At Trust Charitos Hospital, we are committed to keeping you informed with accurate, timely health information. Stay safe. Stay healthy. #HIV #LenPrEP #Lenacapavir #HIVPrevention #NigeriaHealth #TrustCharitosHospital #PublicHealth #Abuja #HealthForAll

Think about everything you’ve touched today, your phone, door handles, currency, or public railings. Our hands are the primary way germs travel, yet we often forget that looking clean isn't the same as being clean. Proper hand hygiene is the simplest, most effective "do-it-yourself" vaccine we have. By washing your hands regularly with soap or using an alcohol-based sanitizer, you aren't just protecting yourself, you're protecting your family, your colleagues and your community from the spread of infections. Make it a habit today, your health depends on it. Visit Us Today: 📍 Plot 879/880 Idris Ibrahim Crescent, Off Obafemi Awolowo Way, Jabi, Abuja.
