Decrease urban sprawl and increase urban vibrancy. Big fan of walkable neighbourhoods. 🚶‍♂️🚲🚅 Opinions are my own.

With the plans unveiled for the Quebec City Tramway, I thought it could be a fun exercise to show what Ottawa could achieve if given more surface transit priority. I therefore present my 2050 O-Train/Tram - STO transit system map! (Constructive critiques welcomed) Long 🧵 1/

@PlanteSteph613 @ByWardMarket_ Looked great out there! I hope in the future we can add more shade, street art, and seating. That would make the space even more inviting!!!

@RM_Transit Interesting take! I always assumed Rob was bad on transit because he delayed projects which resulted in growth outpacing transit service. Maybe you have more perspective, but his pro car policies and lack of operational funding cemented the status quo culture seen today.

Often comments made that Rob Ford "killed" Transit City like this is a bad thing. The most valuable line in transit City was eglinton and it still got built, while the only line that I think you proj really say got killed was a bad project that we should be glad we avoided.

@kirawontmiss Literally did nothing wrong and was even civil to the skateboarder that cut across the path of travel. Everyone walked away yet people blame the cyclist. Makes no sense.

@ctvottawa It’s not eco friendly, it’s just good planning. How do you expect to get 20k ppl in and out of an urban area without traffic jams or adding massive costs with an underground parking garage?

@MikePMoffatt IMO the message is spot on. But optically, these are the folks you see at development meetings opposing new infill development in their neighbourhood.

@StuntmanStu If Bank is currently congested, not really sure why this is a bad idea. More cars = more congestion, so let’s improve bus service/speeds.

@StuntmanStu Frankly, I’ve seen a lot of experienced people who drive terribly. It all comes down to calming traffic in pedestrian areas.

Is it me or are there many new drivers that don't know what the hell they're doing on the roads. Like where are they getting their licenses? I'm asking legitimately

@StuntmanStu Good suggestions. I’d like to also see more pedestrian space/plazas, secure bike parking, more games/programming, and no through traffic. The core police strategy has seen some improvements, but we need housing so homeless folks have somewhere to go.

Cross at your own risk! Dear @NYC_DOT a crosswalk on a major thoroughfare on Union Sq with a 2 way bike lane @CitiBikeNYC bicycles, e-bikes & mopeds careening around a BLIND turn - NO signs whatsoever! NO rules!

@StuntmanStu @Rvguy18 Everyone seems to have nostalgia glasses. I think it’s pretty nice now. I visit regularly and it’s busy. New development going up around. The LRT makes it accessible. It’s a victim of the housing/opioid crisis, so we should fund supportive housing.

The rink on William street was a fail because NOBODY KNEW ABOUT IT. Our night mayor doesn't believe in having a social media platform. Stop hiding my man Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk

@mchkzn Maybe hot take: I like the snow banks as they slow speeders, force drivers to negotiate space, and protect pedestrians. Although they do block visibility at intersections.

Remove the snow already or ban street parking until such a time that the snow can be removed. This is ridiculous. There’s also the non-local cut through traffic but that’s another issue.
