On March 10, Daily Nation published “Sh50 Billion SHA Rip-off.”
Within hours, the hashtag #DailyNationSHALies exploded to 5,409 posts in a single day from just 427 accounts. By the next day, activity crashed.
This wasn’t organic outrage. It was a coordinated campaign. #PigaFirimbi

On Monday May 18th, police fired live rounds into crowds at Thome Shepherd in Marurui, within Nairobi’s greater Kasarani area, as they attempted to disperse demonstrators protesting rising fuel prices.
Two women were hit: Prudence Imali, 20, who was fatally shot in the chest, and Vallery Amondi, 26, who remains hospitalised at Kenyatta National Hospital after a bullet lodged in her thigh.
Today, 21st May, members of the Marurui community gathered to demand justice for the two women shot during the protests.
Protesters marched to Kasarani Police Station, where the OCS later visited the scene of the crime in Marurui, but the families say they are still unable to file an OB report after delays and frustration from police.
Without an OB number, investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) remain stalled, alongside delays in conducting the postmortem.
Officials from Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) later visited the scene of the crime.
According to human rights organisation Vocal Africa, at least 12 people have been killed in the aftermath of the countrywide protests against the fuel price hikes.

Cornelius Chepsoi, Chair Rig Owners Association: There is a lot of talk in the media that this is a matatu strike; it is not a matatu strike. This is a nationwide strike by Kenyans. The Minister came back with an offer from the state of 8 shillings, which our members out rightly refused. The original proposal was that they take out the entire 46 shillings that they increased in the last cycle. The agreement was that the strike goes on, and we maintain it until we agree. In the Minister’s words, he said in Michuki’s time, people walked to work for two months until a solution was found. It is not right for CS Wandayi to change the statement on the floor, that is not speaking in good faith #CitizenMondayReport

Cornelius Chepsoi: There is an ugly thinking that we must get away from. This idea that the government believes the solution to every problem is a price increment is tragic. There is no more elasticity, the Kenyan has gotten to the maximum, they cannot take any other price adjustment #CitizenMondayReport

Very engaging meeting between the Transport Sector and Government on fuel prices, still ongoing... There is genuine knowledge sharing, honest engagement, and above all, a strong sense of patriotism and commitment to finding solutions that work for wananchi.

Comoros🇰🇲 government now suspends new fuel prices introduced in response to the Iran war, backing down after the hikes, diesel prices by 46% and gasoline prices by 35%, prompted demonstrations and deadly clashes across the East African archipelago.
"The government and President Azali (Assoumani) heard the cries of the Comorian people. There was no other solution than to listen to them. The goal is to preserve peace," Energy Minister Aboubacar Saïd Anli announces.
President Azali suspended the decrees related to the fuel price hike, which were introduced on May 9, to allow for talks on the matter.
