@DestinyBulletn What’s the point of these petitions? They don’t have to listen to anyone. It doesn’t matter if you get 500,000,000 people to sign it, doesn’t mean they’ll do it lmao

@SynthPotato They tried the free path before. Not only was it unsustainable, it also means funding for security is very difficult since it isn’t generating any revenue. Hence why the major hack happened in 2011.

@Evilxxbunny @Aaron_Kiely88 @oliver_drk Not on Xbox they don’t. The console sales were so pathetically bad in the mid 2010’s, they almost shutdown Xbox for good. Gamepass was an effort to keep an audience on the hardware and attract newcomers. It didn’t work. You HAVE to sell software and on Xbox they aren’t selling.

@Aaron_Kiely88 @oliver_drk Gamepass is used because they removed everything else. They literally consolidated all online sub tiers into gamepass. We don’t have a choice. Plenty of people buy their own games.

@octopuscaveman Why is it so hard for people to understand that agreeing to being recorded while having sex and posting it on the internet forever is, in fact, different than working at a gas station. Idk why it’s so hard for people to understand lmfao

@Driskal @iShieldMaiden_ Very true. But the main question: Is Bungie/Sony okay with an exclusively hardcore player base? If so, they have to be okay with relatively mediocre sales and player numbers. If not, they have to make a change.

I love this game, I’ve sunk a shit ton of hours into it, I’ve been locked in some first announced, but here’s the thing. Bungie had to have known this wasn’t going to capture the casual audience. I’m pretty sure they’ve been told all throughout testing that it wouldn’t either. It wasn’t built for casual play. It rewards the players that have stuck around and grinded it out. Not sure what the fix is, but they have to do something. I want this game to stick around for a long time.

This is what's hard. Im genuinely asking the pvp sphere - how do you keep casuals interested in a game where the rich get richer? The better you are, the more you win, the more you win, the better the gear, where do casuals fit?
Endless@EndlessGl

@giancar73012035 The unfortunate truth is that we all know Bungie is gonna cave, and instead of keeping PvP the main focus, Marathon will get a PvE mode that pulls almost all of the low skill/casual audience out of PvP, which will increase queue times and ping. Welcome to Destiny 2: 2.

@giancar73012035 Sounds like you’re taking this to the extreme. If they don’t do something to attract more players, the game will shut down. Simple as that.

Basically, the feedback I'm seeing is that they want to turn Marathon into Hello Kitty Adventures so that dads who play for an hour a day have a chance to beat Cryo Archive. Sacrificing the game's entire identity just to keep extreme casual players happy is a terrible idea.

@GuapoGary_ I generally don’t, but the fact that the threat is there is what makes extraction shooters so fun. They’re not for everyone, but that tension is what makes it so unique.

@oliemack GPT and all these other generative AI models (either through text or images) just scrape whatever info they can find on the internet and regurgitate it to you in a way that seems familiar. It’s like jingling keys in your face and YOU fall for that? Fuck that tech. Total waste.

People have lost sight of what an amazing accomplishment LLMs are. When I first used GPT-3, I had a moment of wonder: a computer is responding intelligently to natural language in natural language. And I was using the original Curie/Davinci model variants that weren’t even instruction tuned - they functioned primarily as autocomplete. These models fundamentally changed how I thought about technology from that point onwards. If we keep up our guard and only look for failures, we can lose track of how amazing the technology is, and how striking its pace of improvement has been. Capabilities acceleration that would be stupefyingly fast in other fields is often brushed off. Just this week a model that is arguably superintelligent at computer security research (and likely many other tasks) has been announced, a difficult-to-fathom development that many people are a bit dull to. We are currently possibly in something that looks like a singularity - AI models accelerating AI development - and it hasn't been remarked on widely outside of specialist press. Have people lost their sense of how ridiculous this is? Or am I mistaken? It sometimes feels like in trying to slot LLMs in the same bucket as a crypto token or new phone, we dramatically undersell their significance. For good or for bad.

🚨 Do you understand what this actually means.. Gen Z and millennials aren't burnt out because they're weak.. they did the math.. your dad bought a house at 24 on one salary.. a 40-hour week and a pension waiting at the end.. here's what changed.. in 1970 the median home cost 2x the average annual salary.. today it costs 6x.. and that's before the interest rate.. > Boomers graduated with little to no debt into an economy with employer pensions, cheap housing, and a job market that rewarded loyalty.. > Gen Z graduates with $30,000 in student debt into an economy that replaced pensions with 401ks where YOU bear all the risk.. replaced job security with "freelance opportunities".. and replaced affordable housing with a market that requires two incomes just to rent.. the work ethic didn't change.. the math changed.. > Boomers didn't build that economy.. they inherited it.. built by the Greatest Generation after the war, funded by government programs, subsidized housing, public universities, and infrastructure they didn't pay for.. > they rode the boom, extracted everything, gutted the pensions, made the houses unaffordable, defunded the universities.. and then told the next generation to work harder..
Leading Report@LeadingReport

Gen Z and millennials are burnt out because older generations had much easier lives while working far less hard, per FORTUNE.

Marathon being a free to play game would have made it MUCH more popular. People don’t wanna pay 40$ to “try” out a game that gets good 10 hours in

I love this time of year. The lawn is roaring back. Trees and flowers are starting to bloom. It's fun putzing around the yard; trim this, water that, mow, plant. I spend hours out there. This will be my uninterrupted daily regimen until the oppressive heat arrives. (Then, pool.)

@GwenpostingTTV With all due respect that’s just wrong lol R6S sold over 21 million copies before going f2p, has an all time peak of 200k on steam alone, and consistently gets over 80k a day still. As of writing this, Marathon has less than 30k playing rn. I love Marathon, and I’m worried

@_TeLoo Hard disagree. The beginning has the worst quests and you barely have any combat moves. Not to mention that your stamina is base level. Traversing the world, combat, and story are all lame at the beginning, but get good/great about 5 or so hours in

@kiwitalkz Probably because they needed the game out so the can make money on it. They were probably running low on budget and couldn’t afford a rework of controls at the time. Now they can.

I don’t get these devs, at demo events the feedback was largely that the control scheme was archaic and unintuitive and they ignored the feedback and doubled down and now they are fixing it. Why not just fix it then and save yourself all of this trouble lol Increasingly I dont buy games Day 1 unless I plan to review it with game devs as part of my sub series as it’s not worth it a lot of the time. It’s like you are punished for buying games Day 1 as you pay more and get a lesser experience than someone buying it a year later

@Waynesep1 Are you slow or something? You don’t see the difference in a mediocre copy cat and the innovative inspiration from nearly a decade ago? CD copies BOTW in many ways and does that significantly worse than Nintendo did in 2017.
