What a biased and rubbished article @abcnews. What next, should we ask the foxes how to manage the hen house? We need ecological restoration not more of the same ideas that got our forests into this mess

It is a disgrace. This is happening in the promised Wombat-Lerderderg National Park. It is impossible that this amount of timber removal of fallen trees is for reduction of fire risk – perhaps we should completely clear the forest to eliminate any risk of a bushfire.

It’s hard not to wonder: are we prioritising short-term contracts over long-term nature protection?
Wombat Forestcare@WForestcare

@Steve_Dimo @JacintaAllanMP Is the delay in legislating Victoria’s promised national parks linked to ongoing salvage operations? @FFMVic_Chief @FFMVic – much of this work is disturbing already-decomposed vegetation, creating new fine fuels. Can we have clarity on the intent here?

Why are @FFMVic taking trees? @WForestcare’s Gayle Osborne, said @DEECA_Vic acknowledged that fine fuels – not large fallen logs – drove bushfire behaviour. “Yet DEECA’s storm recovery operations continue to remove these ecologically important logs”. midlandexpress.com.au/latest-news/20…

"I think the way that the government is treating our national parks and reserves … is really killing the goose that laid the golden egg — or at least removing the caretakers who look after those gooses laying those golden eggs."- @JCrooka VNPA Campaigner abc.net.au/news/2025-01-2…

Only 41 animals and plants were added to the national threatened species list last year despite potentially thousands being in trouble, with Commonwealth Government resourcing the major limitation. “The existing listing assessment process is resource intensive. At the moment we are concerned that not enough resourcing is going to assessments, and as such we are seeing far fewer species being added to the list than are actually at risk,” said Biodiversity Council Co-Chief Councillor Prof Hugh Possingham from The University of Queensland. “Every Australian Government over the last decade has committed to preventing extinctions and recovering threatened species. Having an accurate threatened species list to guide conservation strategies and decisions is essential to achieving this.” A 2023 global study by @westernsydneyu found that only 39% of Australia’s unique plant species have had their threats and conservation status assessed, compared to 87% in New Zealand and South Africa. Another study by @CDUni found that 1-3 species of invertebrates are going extinct in Australia every week. Listing species under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act affords them greater legal protection and visibility and will hopefully also attract new action to conserve them. Read an ABC News article about the species added in 2024: abc.net.au/news/science/2… Biodiversity Council says more resourcing is urgently needed for assessments - read more: biodiversitycouncil.org.au/news/biodivers… #conservation #biodiversity #australianwildlife #savingourspecies

"As a part of Victoria’s transition out of commercial native timber harvesting in state forests, the Victorian Regional Forest Agreements (RFAs) were terminated on 31 December 2024". Now stay out. Legislate the Parks. deeca.vic.gov.au/futureforests/…

100+ passionate National park lovers gathered in Oakleigh this week to demand action on new National Parks and need for better funding of parks. Years of delay from @JacintaAllanMP's Labor Govt while forests & wildlife pay the price Oakleigh Loves Parks. 🌳🐨 #springst

@agvocate_au Couldn't agree more. Clear classic case of deliberately underfunding something and setting it up to fail. The collective knowledge loss from the Department I imagine would be staggering. Prolonged inaction will cost us all dearly - fiscally, physically and mentally.

@WForestcare State has systematically cut resources to PV for 8 years. People not replaced, services reduced, wages diddled. Then they have the hide to now throw PV under a Big Build Project Bus, saying PV didn't meet community expectations, as if it was PV fault.

Broken trust on Parks, slashing Parks Vic, and abandoning nature during a climate crisis—this govt is dismantling its environmental legacy. Victorians demand accountability. Act now for nature. theage.com.au/environment/co…

The missing enviro Min @Steve_Dimo and @JacintaAllanMP failed to deliver on their promise to deliver 3 of the Central West Parks by the end of 2024. Salvage logging is about to begin again in areas slated for National Park. People fought 4 this 4 over 20 yrs. @MaryAnneThomas
