I warmly congratulate my friend Vijay on being elected Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. For many years, his adoring fans watched him defeat corrupt politicians and assorted villains within three hours, usually after a short interval. The people of Tamil Nadu have now entrusted Vijay with a responsibility far greater than any role performed on screen. Oru Viral Puratchi — the “one-finger revolution” — is now on the cusp of creating history. Malaysia and Tamil Nadu share deep historical, cultural and people-to-people ties across generations. Remarks questioning IIUM’s role in research on the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur should be viewed with maturity and perspective. IIUM is among Malaysia’s most global universities — with 120,000+ alumni from over 140 countries, many now serving as leaders in government, diplomacy, law, academia and the corporate sector worldwide. Research on urban governance must be grounded in evidence, data and sound analysis — not short-term political sentiment. Universities should be respected as intellectual partners in nation-building. To uphold universities is to uphold the tradition of knowledge — the very foundation of modern civilisation. #EvidenceBasedPolicy #RespectKnowledge #Malaysia
