I would like to hear from all Trump apologists who spent years telling me about the wisdom of throwing Ukraine under the bus in order to get Russia away from China so we can focus on China, and how throwing Taiwan under the bus is part of the same grand strategy of dealing with China.

I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. @scottlincicome In Croatia you don't even have to spend 3 minutes. Everything is done automatically. Unless you have your own business, other income, capital gains, etc. you don't have to do anything.

Filing your taxes in Estonia takes 3 minutes each year; 38% of the public does it via smartphone; and citizens literally race to file on the first day their tax returns go live.

@Omnises @LilithLovett You get a detailed sheet with all taxes and other payments like city tax, retirement fund payment, health insurance, etc. every month. In February you can see online if you owe taxes or get something back. You can always check yourself and nothing is hidden.

@_Cognis @LilithLovett Do regular workers have the option to manually review their tax filing? I prefer the idea of automatic taxes obviously, just wondering if the one (1) advantage to doing it manually is preserved.

TurboTax gave $1 million dollars to Trump, in exchange he made them many billions at the expense of Americans.

@LilithLovett The fact that in 2026 you still have to manually do you taxes is wild. Here everything is automatically done, and you only have to file extra income, capital gains, etc. The vast majority with regular jobs don't have to lift a finger.
