I keep seeing people on X bring up the “13% of the population” crime stat like it proves something about Black people as a whole. It doesn’t. About 81.6% of Black Americans are not below the poverty line. Most are working, raising kids, paying bills, building careers, serving their communities, and living normal lives like everybody else. So when people use crime stats to condemn “the Black community,” they’re taking problems concentrated in certain areas and projecting them onto millions of people who have nothing to do with it. Talk about poverty. Talk about gangs. Talk about drugs. Talk about broken homes. Talk about bad schools. Talk about crime-heavy neighborhoods. But don’t pretend that is the same thing as talking about Black people as a whole. That’s not analysis. That’s stereotyping with a spreadsheet.
