i once made 1.5x of my salary in a single day just by negotiating properly startup A offered me 1x. right after another interview ended, i told startup B that i already had a 1x offer and would only consider joining for 1.2x then i went back to startup A and told them i got 1.2x. they bumped it to 1.3x i pushed once more and asked for 1.4x and they agreed people in tech really underestimate how far negotiation can take you. sometimes it’s less about being the best engineer and more about knowing your worth and asking for it properly
