Expectation or at least the intention of high standards from Ministers as expressed by @MJameelAhmed is commendable 👏 But wasn’t it his administration that elevated the referred person? What’s really baffling is the GAP between past action and present rhetoric

As a nation, we remain behind many others in several respects. I am baffled by how conveniently Foreign Minister @IruthishamAdam has dodged the serious allegations surrounding the use of two allegedly fake PhD degrees. Notably: 1. She had been using the title “Dr” for some time until public criticism forced her to stop using it. 2. She is alleged to have breached several provisions of the Penal Code, including fabrication of documents, submission of false documents to the government, fraud and deception. 3. When asked by the press yesterday, she offered no proper explanation in her defence, stating only that she had submitted her employment history. During her tenure as Maldives Ambassador to the UK, she was often seen promoting herself through selfies. Her remarks about competence are ironic, especially as members of the diplomatic corps were reportedly irritated by her enthusiasm for taking selfies at inappropriate moments. 4. In any other country, there would be shame in presenting a person facing such allegations as the nation’s diplomatic representative. In recent years, including in Sri Lanka, high-profile figures facing similar allegations have stepped aside. Below is a picture of the university from which she is alleged to have obtained her PhD. The picture itself is self-explanatory.
