Here’s something the right really should be thinking about. In the May local elections across the eight Makerfield wards the numbers looked like this: Reform 50.4% Labour 22.7% Green 10.9% Conservative 9.9% Lib Dem 3.8% On paper, the right should walk that. But if that vote gets split three ways between three right wing parties all fighting each other, things suddenly start looking very different. Andy Burnham doesn’t need 50%. He just needs to come out ahead of everyone else. That’s the danger. Three parties all saying they want change, all saying they represent ordinary people, all attacking each other instead of focusing on Labour, could end up handing Burnham a route into Westminster. Not because Labour are massively popular. Not because Burnham is unbeatable. But because too many egos and too much division handed him the win. Nobody can really say they weren’t warned. Honestly, if I lived there, I’d probably feel politically homeless right now.

@adam_griffiths prototype yesterday, v0.1 today, launch tomorrow is exactly the new normal. slightly rude to roadmaps

Yesterday I had the idea for a website, I got claude to knock me up a prototype so I could see how it would look. Today, in a few hours, claude has built a v0.1…tomorrow I could finish it off and launch it. Utterly insane how fast you can build stuff now.

Once again YouGov have REFUSED to prompt Restore Britain properly in their poll They list them like every other party but you have to choose other first to have a chance of selecting them Are you a proper polling company or not @YouGov ?

This also includes 50 programmatic SEO pages and legal bit's and pieces, all built on top of a CMS that I've been prompting claude to build me over the last week. It's brilliant. I like building things again!

Tomorrow I will do more user testing, try and break things, test payment flow and PDF generation (oh yeah it makes PDFs) and if we weren't going to a BBQ on Wednesday I could launch it by then. Utterly, utterly mad. Oh and I did it all in about 7% of my weekly limit.

Our party has suffered a historic defeat. Many good Labour colleagues have lost their seats despite working hard for those they represented. We have lost good Labour administrations and lost the chance for more. What we are doing isn’t working, and it needs to change. This may be our last chance. The Labour Party must now live up to our name: we must be the party of working people. We’ve heard the same on the doorstep as we’ve seen in the polls - the cost of living is the top issue for voters of all parties. People have turned to populists and nationalists because we have not done enough to fix it. Living standards are barely higher than they were a decade and a half ago. People feel hopeless - that the cost of living crisis will never end, and now they see oil and gas companies use global instability to post record profits. Once again, ordinary people are paying the price for decisions they didn’t make. It’s no wonder that across the UK, working people feel the system is rigged against them. Things can be so much better than this. Countries including Spain and Canada have shown that economies can grow and people can thrive when governments stay true to labour and social democratic values and put people first. We need to learn from that. In London, we lost young people who fear they will never afford a home. In my patch and across the north, we lost working people whose wages are too low and costs too high. In Scotland and Wales, people do not currently see Labour as the answer.  We are in danger of becoming a party of the well-off, not working people. The Peter Mandelson scandal showed a toxic culture of cronyism.  Decisions like cutting winter fuel allowance just weren’t what people expected from a Labour government. For too long, successive governments have allowed wealth and power to concentrate at the top without a plan to ensure the benefits of economic growth are shared fairly. The result is an economy that does not work for the majority, with wealth concentrated in too few hands. This level of inequality, alongside squeezed living standards, is the outcome of a model built on deregulation, privatisation, and trickle-down economics. But we have the chance to fix this.  1/2

Vibe coding is the term soon-to-be-fired crusty old web devs use to make them feel better about writing 30 lines of code a day.

In the last month I’ve been noodling with Claude code I’ve just gone and built 14 different things in a month. People will moan at me for vibe coding but it’s actually amazing what you can get done with it if you have some ideas and small knowledge.

@danbarker I drove to the UK in my Spanish car last summer, and these apps wouldn’t work with a Spanish license plate. The machine wouldn’t take cash or card either, so I had to find someplace else to park.

For something so basic, parking is way harder than it should be. Some machines take coins only, some card only, some app only - where it could be one of four or five different apps, and where you need good signal.

And now AI is closing the gap. I’m back building stuff and I’ve built two sites in two weeks that I wouldn’t have done at the height of my career in as long. Also I now live in Thailand. Lmao. Embrace new tech or piss off, is what I was told. Now reap what you sow!

I left after the same people wanted to make everything super complicated to get online - for personal reasons mostly - but also, it became complicated for the sake of it all so you could feel like an “engineer” and not a coder.

Former web dev here. The boring people complaining that using AI to code isn’t real coding will be kicking off when they get binned off over the new hire who knows how to work with the new technology. 😂😂
