Yesterday in South Africa, after meeting with the ministers in the morning, I delivered a guest speech at the Spier Dialogue Event on “Policies for Growth in Africa” in Cape Town, where I reiterated that Africa has no reason to remain poor. Our continent is blessed with enormous natural and human resources. Africa holds huge mineral reserves, possesses over 60% of the world’s uncultivated arable land, and has the youngest population globally. These are not liabilities; they are strategic assets for economic transformation. Yet, despite these enormous advantages, Africa continues to lag due to poor leadership, corruption, weak institutions, and the high cost of governance. Africa must now look ahead and move forward with decisive action. We must shift our focus from politics and endless election cycles to productivity, development, and nation-building. The future of Africa lies in investing aggressively in Human Development Index (HDI) indicators, especially education, healthcare, and lifting people out of poverty. Today, many African countries still record low life expectancy, high infant mortality, widespread unemployment, and growing poverty levels. Small and medium-scale businesses, which should be the engine of growth, are collapsing under harsh economic conditions, poor infrastructure, and policy inconsistency. What Africa needs is competent leadership with the capacity, compassion, and commitment to prioritise production over consumption, and development over politics. If we invest in our people, strengthen institutions, reduce the cost of governance, combat corruption, and create an environment where businesses can thrive, we can build a more productive, secure, democratic, and prosperous Africa that works for all its people. A New Africa is Possible. -PO

Mary, Mother of Pentecost, as you prayed with the apostles when the Holy Spirit descended upon them, pray for us today. May the Spirit fill us with divine fire, renew the face of the earth, and make us faithful disciples of Christ. Set our hearts ablaze with love for God and zeal for the Gospel. Strengthen us to live holy lives, to serve generously, and to become instruments of peace and truth in the world. Come, Holy Spirit, and renew us completely. Amen. 🙏🏽🔥

Life is truly crazy. People went from trying to bully Ozonna Soludo and mock his style to now jumping on his dance challenge and copying the same energy they once laughed at. Funny how the internet works. Today’s ridicule can easily become tomorrow’s trend. Just always be you.

Mary, Mother of the Church, intercede for us on this holy vigil as we await a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Renew our hearts where faith has grown weak, restore joy where burdens have weighed us down, and awaken within us a deeper love for God. May Pentecost not be only a feast we celebrate, but a grace that truly transforms our lives. Amen🙏🏽

We completed the first phase of high speed internet connectivity at Engineering Faculty, UNN. This first phase was more of experiment and data gathering. It was only at Agric & Bioresources Engineering department and restricted to staff. Next week, we will be extending to both students and staff of Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Agric & Bioresources Engineering. The purpose of this investment is to aid research and learning without barriers. Although, from the data we gathered during this experiment phase, we saw lots of football matches and very little research sites. We will continue to monitor usage and gather more data. This is at no cost to them and I hope they use it to carry out more meaningful researches that will positively impact our society.

After speaking with Nigerians in Cape Town yesterday, I was able to have meaningful discussions this morning with three South African ministers and political party leaders regarding the ongoing challenges related to immigration, regional collaboration, and fostering peaceful coexistence between our nations. I had the pleasure of meeting with Mr Leon Schreiber, the South African Minister of Home Affairs and a prominent figure in the Democratic Alliance; Mr Velenkosini Hlabisa, the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and leader of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP); and Mr Gayton McKenzie, the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture and leader of the Patriotic Alliance (PA). Our conversations were productive and candid, focusing on the current challenges that affect both countries—particularly those related to migration, economic strains, youth unemployment, security issues, and the rising tensions faced by African foreigners in South Africa. I firmly believe that Nigeria and South Africa, both prominent African nations, must enhance dialogue, bolster cooperation, and seek solutions based on justice, mutual respect, and adherence to the rule of law. In challenging times, leaders and citizens alike need to demonstrate responsible leadership, compassion, and restraint. We collectively stressed the importance of law-abiding behaviour, avoiding violence, resisting hate or provocation, and allowing lawful institutions to address grievances through democratic and constitutional processes, regardless of the challenges we face. The progress of Africa hinges on our ability to create unity, foster economic inclusivity, invest in our communities, and uphold the dignity of every African, no matter where they live. -PO

This afternoon, I spoke extensively with the Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (Prof. Kate Omenugha). Firstly, i asked her why she was charging students compulsory N15,000 which she clearly explained that it's ICT fee. She also explained how the money is being spent. I also raised the issue of absence of electricity in the university for more than 15 years. She clarified that it is the entire Uli town that is facing that challenge and not peculiar to the university. I recommended they invest in building a solar farm to power the university and it's environs as the government of IMO and Anambra state sorts out the power conflicts. We discussed further on the issue of sorting, sex for grades, victimizations, extortions etc which she said that she has been tackling since she assumed office. She also pointed out some ongoing cases she is handling and staff being fired. We agreed that I will share reports i get from students to her and she will prioritize it, investigate and take immediate actions. We also discussed about her letting students see their scripts after exams to reduce missing scripts claims and extortions, which she agreed she will start immediately but gradually. Finally, i recommended she revalidate the certificates of all her lecturers and staff to fish out those with fake certificates as currently being done at Abia State University. She agreed to setup a committee and start that immediately. I will encourage every student in that university to submit any cases or issues of fraud, extortions, sorting, sex for grades, intimidations, victimizations etc here campusintegrity.ng so we can get it to the Vice Chancellor and get it resolved as quickly as possible. Your details will be fully protected. Restoring full integrity in our universities is not option and it's urgent we do it now. We are all in the same journey of building the greatest workforce in Africa within 10 years.

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli have not had electricity for the past 15 years. The only state owned university. Extortion, killings, kidnapping, sex for grades, bullying and all sort of atrocities happen there daily. Governor Soludo is complacent and it’s very bad

One of the things you have to admire about Peter Obi is his strength and energy. Just some days ago, he was at an event in Abuja. The other day, he was in Agulu. And now, he is attending another event in South Africa. Love him or not, one thing is undeniable: that man has remarkable strength, discipline, and work ethic. Not many people can sustain that pace consistently.
Esther Umoh@EstherUmoh10

Peter Obi arrived in South Africa from Lagos in the early hours of Friday for a conference, but true to his belief in putting Nigeria and Nigerians first, he made time to meet with members of the Nigerian community to ask after their welfare in light of recent events. The meeting was productive, but also deeply revealing, as many Nigerians present shared that no government official had reached out to them, at least not in any official capacity. They expressed happiness at receiving Peter Obi and were touched that, despite the stress and fatigue of a long flight, he chose to stop by and engage with them before even getting some rest. This is one thing that has been missing for far too long. The feeling of belonging to a country where citizens feel seen, valued, and cared for by their leaders, regardless of where they are in the world. While we continue to ask citizens to be patriotic towards their country, the country itself must also show patriotism towards its people. This is the kind of Nigeria Peter Obi hopes to restore. A nation where the people feel loved by their country, and in return, truly love it back. #NigeriaWillBeOk
