As an agile coach the best work you can do is help people unlearn "agile" Instead, help them: - create a safe space to collaborate - critically question what they choose to build, why, & how - understand where they are in their system & levers they have to make change

In summary, I always look out for below to filter the strongest candidates: 1. Complex stakeholder interactions 2. Working under constraints 3. Share 'one layer deep' inights 4. Iterative Mindset 5. Talk how you measured Success

We turned off our self-serve signups and replaced our freemium plan with a $200 per month floor and it has generated... a reaction. A thread with some thoughts on why we did this and what the impact has been so far to our business

It's always so sad to see an app that you used regularly for years decide they just don't want your money anymore. This used to be ~$10/mo, now you have to call them to even get a price (plans start at $200/mo) Anybody know any good alternatives to @rainforestqa ?

Beware the quick fix: there is no change without understanding, no understanding without practice, no practice without guides, no guides without leadership, no leadership without accountability. linkedin.com/posts/amandara…

I actually really don’t care *how* you do product management. I do care: - do you understand users - do you understand buyers - is the problem meaningful - is it valuable - can we access that value - do you have good taste - can you get it done - were you right - so what

🇨🇦What Canadians Should Know About #Meta #UnblockCanadianNews 2006: Facebook launches its News Feed, training Canadian users to get their news on Facebook 2012: Facebook allows advertisers to share Sponsored Stories in its News Feed 10 years later…Facebook is making billions in advertising revenue (2022: $116.B) mostly from content it does not create.... 2022: 77% of Canadians use Facebook (Statista) 2022: Facebook renames News Feed to Feed 2023: (Summer) Approx 50% of Canadians get their news from social media (-The Conversation) 2023: (Summer) Canada has worst wildfire season on record 2023: (Summer) Meta (Facebook parent company) starts blocking news in response to the Online News Act (which is unlikely to take effect until 2024). 2023: (Summer) Google is also subject to the Online News Act (but Google is not yet blocking news) August 2023: Meta should now unblock news so Canadians in #Yellowknife and #Kelowna, which are evacuating due to devastating #wildfires, have trusted access to local breaking and emergency news (again, there will be no government repercussions to this unblock, just the potential to save some lives and reduce some stress since it's hard to break a decade of Canadians' online news habits when they are facing fire on their doorsteps) Now tell me this, is there any other business in the country that would ever consider keeping a lifesaving product or service AWAY from Canadians who are in need, based on a law that doesn't stop them from providing this product or service for months? Meanwhile, Mark Zuckerberg has updated his Threads account SEVEN TIMES with details about his fist fight with Elon Musk. So, when I say that we are lacking humane tech leaders, this is what I mean. Today, Saturday, August 19, Mark Zuckerberg can #UnblockCanadianNews with no repercussions whatsoever (except maybe a bruised ego?), ultimately ensuring Canadian citizens have access to news that they’ve been trained for a decade to get on his platform (a platform that makes him one of the Top 10 richest men in the world).

The harsh truth about Agile methodology: You don't need 1000s of hours getting a certification or reading the Agile Manifesto Instead, you need to understand the essence of the methodology. And the essence is pretty straightforward to understand and apply in real life. So what does it really mean to be Agile? Customer is front and centre. Instead of following pointless frameworks or routines, Agile recommends that you identify what the customers/users need. And that you should do it regularly to ensure you always solve the most relevant user needs. Iteration Do NOT try to do everything (or too much) at once. Instead, break your tasks into manageable chunks (or "iterations" or "sprints.") In each iteration, deliver value. Use each iteration to build on the previous one, to deliver the total value with the final iteration. Collaboration You cannot create impactful products alone. Agile values teamwork and collaboration. Create systems that encourage easy and transparent collaboration. The goal is to help everyone understand their roles, while contributing to the team goals. Be adaptive Agile teaches us that plans change (even when you plan well.) As an excellent product manager, you should create systems that enable you to respond to change well and that allow you to minimize the negative impact of changes on your larger goals. Focus on learning how to adapt instead of being stuck up when it comes to change. Sharing progress and success Irrespective of your methodology, sharing progress with stakeholders transparently and regularly is essential. This allows you to get feedback, iterate, and become better. While you're sharing progress, never shy away from sharing successes and failures. Winning and losing in public will amplify your learning. Continuous Improvement Being agile also means investing time in identifying opportunities to learn and improve. Every iteration you work on should be better, more efficient, high value, low cost, etc., than the last one. Autonomy and empowerment All of the above will only be possible if everyone in the team feels empowered to make decisions in the team's best interest. Encourage and enable everyone to contribute to and make decisions. Build trust and transparency to unlock the true potential of teamwork. Lastly, it is important to know that all the processes and the systems that the manifesto recommends should only be taken as recommendations and not directions that are set in stone. Focus on the above, and create processes that work for your team (or don't create them altogether) It is also important to know what Agile does NOT mean Agile does NOT mean that you: 1. do not have documentation 2. work in a chaotic environment 3. do not plan well 4. do not focus on quality 5. do not hold others accountable Let me know if you've practiced Agile, and if it is (or should be) different compared to the above.

Allen Holub. https://linkedIn.com/in/allenholub
Keeping Work In Progress to 1 is a core to Lean, & pays off in spades. In general, you loose 20% of your productivity for every additional task you add, so a team working on 3 things is working at 60% efficiency. The team can decide to work inefficiently, I suppose.
Urs Enzler@ursenzler

@allenholub @ijrussell I’m all in on dumping the Sprint (we did that a couple of years ago), but limiting to a single item is generally a bad idea as well. Let the team decide how they want to tackle their work: a single thing or a few things, depending on what these things are. Decide per thing.
