My Aurora Water Tour was an eye-opening experience. Aurora owns significant lands in Lake County, including areas around Turquoise Lake, where much of our city’s water originates. From Mount Elbert Bay and Twin Lakes, the water travels through an extensive system of reservoirs, pumping stations, and pipelines.It passes through the Homestake system, Spinney Mountain Reservoir, and eventually reaches the Aurora Reservoir where it becomes the safe, clean water our residents depend on every day. This process is highly complex and requires coordination with many agencies across the region. Just one part of the system the Homestake pumping station carries an electricity cost of more than $600,000 every month. What many don’t realize is that this entire system was made possible because of the foresight and determination of past Aurora city councils and leaders, who secured these critical water rights and built the infrastructure decades ago. Their vision ensures Aurora has enough water for the feature and to have one of the most reliable and innovative water systems in the nation. In fact, Aurora is recognized as having one of the best quality water in the country. As residents, we should be proud not only of the hard work of today’s water crews and staff who manage these operations daily, but also of the leadership and councils who laid this foundation for us. The water we drink, cook with, and use in our homes is the result of decades of planning, vision, and dedication to Aurora’s future. I’m sharing some pictures from the tour 📸 @AuroraWaterCO

It was an honor to attend the Aurora Fire Rescue 2025 Promotional Ceremony today. Aurora is truly one of the best cities, with an outstanding fire department that continues to serve with excellence. This year’s promotions included 1 Operations Supervisor, 3 Engineers, 8 Lieutenants, 4 Captains, and 4 Battalion Chiefs. Congratulations to all! Mayor Mike Coffman and Chief Alec delivered inspiring remarks, and I deeply appreciate the families of our firefighters for their unwavering support. We are truly fortunate to have such a dedicated and remarkable fire rescue family here in Aurora. This week, I will also be doing a ride-along with the Battalion Chief at Station 11 to see firsthand how their operations work and I can’t wait!

We had a productive meeting in my office with Aurora Sister Cities International Executive Director Samuel, City of Aurora Executive Director of Small Business Development Ashvina Patel, and the Financial Literacy team Lydia and Luis. We discussed how to empower our community to start and sustain successful small businesses. One key idea that emerged is the creation of an Aurora International Financial Hub a resource center dedicated to providing accessible information, tools, and connections tailored to our city’s diverse population. This initiative would help bridge gaps and foster economic growth across all backgrounds in our vibrant, multicultural community. @AuroraSisterCI

As a city official, I make it a priority to check in with our small businesses to see how they’re doing, how they’re supporting the community, and if there’s anything the city can do to assist them. Today, I had the pleasure of stopping by the National Financial Literacy organization here in Aurora. They offer free consultations to help community members better understand income management and personal budgeting a vital service for many families. I had the opportunity to meet Lydia, a truly dedicated individual, and Nina from the Department of Finance. They expressed how proud they are to provide workshops that empower residents to take control of their financial well-being. What stood out to me most is the incredible diversity of their team. They offer financial guidance in multiple languages, including Indian, Russian, Spanish, and several European languages. This multilingual support strengthens their connection to Aurora’s beautifully diverse community. Their upcoming financial literacy workshop will be an amazing opportunity for residents to learn how to manage their finances effectively and because financial knowledge is a key to living a happier life. Great job, Lydia and Nina. Keep up the inspiring work!
