I'd like to ask the Americans for their opinion: If an aircraft carrier were severely hit, resulting in hundreds of deaths and the loss of the ship, what would the population's stance be? Would they condemn the war and the loss of lives, with the government coming out weakened, or would this generate a wave of support and revenge?

Aircraft Carriers vs. Hypersonic ASBM The Fattah missile, which Iran recently converted to an anti-ship variant, has a warhead carrying about 500 kg of high-powered explosives, combined with immense kinetic energy from its high-speed descent (equivalent to 10-20 tons of TNT from kinetics alone). This generates a destruction radius of up to 200 meters, including the fireball and fragmentation, equivalent to a small tactical nuclear explosion. According to Israeli media reports, the impacts of Fattah missiles created craters up to 15 meters in diameter and 5 meters deep. All of this is based on the land impacts of these missiles. After conversion to anti-ship, things only get worse. Anti-ship warheads typically use tandem charges: an initial penetrating charge (shaped charge or kinetic penetrator) to breach the armor, followed by a main explosion inside the ship. Imagine an explosion equivalent to dozens of tons of explosives, two to four decks inside an aircraft carrier. This would implode the ship from within, generating multiple fires and secondary explosions. Even if it doesn't sink, the ship will be consumed by fire, turning into a flaming bathtub, especially if the missile detonates the fuel tanks. A single hypersonic ballistic missile would mission-kill any ship and probably sink that ship. But it’s different with an aircraft carrier, which would probably require more than a single shot to sink. The issue is not the chance of survival, but rather denying the guidance capability of these missiles, which is primarily provided by radars, LEO satellites, or drones. In a conflict with a country possessing such missiles, once the fleet allows real-time tracking, it will be vulnerable. The strategy is to take down enemy radars and maintain A2/AD (Anti-Access/Area Denial). And in this regard, the Americans have far more tools than Iran, which will still need to keep its drones in the sky all the time, but that doesn't make it any less of a great threat, and American aircraft carriers will have to operate at a distance. The sinking could potentially bring more problems than solutions in the face of thousands of deaths and the pressure; the USA would consider all options. The consequences of sinking an American aircraft carrier would escalate the war to levels never before imagined.
