Earlier @notthreadguy posted that he wants to have Andrew Tate on his show. I love TG; he's an awesome guy and has been legitimately amazing for our space. He doesn't believe that having someone like Tate on his show is an endorsement. Or further legitimizes him. And that it's good to have conversations with anyone having an impact; perhaps even to ask tough questions. I can respect that view. And even agree with it in most cases. But this week, as an example, Tate was urging people to call him the Fuhrer of the Fourth Reich. He's been formally charged with human trafficking, rape and sexually exploiting women. His comments are consistently wildly racist, misogynistic and offensive. I don't believe someone like this deserves anything but universal condemnation. It's one thing to say that views you don't agree with should have a platform. That people should educate themselves on all sides of an argument. But in my opinion, that's not what this is. This is an awful human being who's supported by a large crowd who are either ignorant, stupid or selfish. And that's a fact: it's one of those three. They either don't understand how hateful he is. They don't appreciate the impact that has. Or they do and don't care as long as they can profit from it. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm the one being ignorant. But I feel pretty strongly that genuine people like TG should distance themselves from folks like Tate. And that you can't fully separate the concept of "endorsement" from engaging with him. What do ya'll think?
