This week’s data spans thawing permafrost in Russian towns, nanoplastics now entrenched across polar waters, and a wildlife paradox in Svalbard where bears are gaining weight despite less sea ice. linkedin.com/pulse/energy-c…

@MushtaqBilalPhD @AgnesAyton I couldn't agree more; it used to be my preferred source for engaging and targeted academic discussions, and I connected with many experts in my field through Twitter. There is no compelling alternative right now, Bluesky is dormant, no discussions happening there.,

@AgnesAyton For all its faults, I quite like this platform. Almost all other social media platforms are entertainment first. X/Twitter used to be learning first, but it's also trying to become entertainment first.

Until a couple years ago, there was a critical mass of academics on Twitter. The platform wasn't pefect but one could participate in interesting discussions and learn stuff. Many academics have left since. Now the timeline is filled with 40-year-old dudes with photos of Japanese anime girls as their profile photos who haven't scratched the surface of life posting racist and sexist ragebaits.
