Immigrant workers stood with @OFLabour against Bill 33 yesterday while raising the alarm on @FordNation’s sudden suspension of 2600+ skilled trade applications in the ON Immigrant Nominee Program. Thousands are in the lurch without fair processing of their PR applications. #Shame

.@ZohranKMamdani I have told you this on the phone, in person, and I will reiterate it publicly: what you think of the phrase “globalize the intifada”—our beautiful uprising against occupation—is irrelevant, what matters is that it’s a slogan adopted by a movement that is partly responsible for your success and you mustn’t throw them under the bus. We are facing unprecedented levels of state-repression and institutional censorship, both our political organizing and speech are criminalized, and we are confronting genocide for God’s sake. That you choose to continue elevating Jewish feelings over the lives of Palestinians, over the fact of genocide, is nothing more than punching down on those who have helped elevate you, and not to mention, it is a bad electoral strategy considering you are quite literally winning and need not to bow down to Zionist pressure. The tens of thousands of volunteers who have canvassed for you in the scorching hot sun, they are not to be taken for granted. Their support isn’t unconditional. Remember that.

Nestle has exposed its anti worker culture resulting in the death of Asif Jutt. Time to hold Nestle accountable & also boycott Nestlé products in Pakistan.
Ammar Ali Jan@ammaralijan
Asif Jutt, worker of Nestle who committed self-immolation at Lahore High Court, has passed away. He was fighting for workers' rights but was let down by a corrupt system. Millions spent in promoting Maryam Nawaz but not a single story in mainstream media on his death. Shameful!

#TheFightContinues
In their message to the public, the PGWP Committee noted:
“As we bring this phase to a close, let it be clear: our fight is far from over. This is not an end but a transformation. We are shifting gears, adopting new strategies, and preparing to come back stronger, more powerful, and even more united.”
Stay tuned as the PGWP Committee plans its next steps to organize deeper, mobilize in new ways, and win justice for international students and migrant workers!

#NarrativeShift The encampment was transformative in more ways than one. Members of the public in Brampton and beyond previously held many misconceptions and displayed hostility towards international students. The encampment and its regular community programming shifted that narrative, as the 24/7 protest became a space to debunk myths, invite community to ask questions and meet PGWP holders in person, and build public support.

#PartialVictory Over the last year, and especially after the encampment started on August 30, PGWP holders have been independently organizing for fair immigration policies through 24/7 public protest and concurrent meetings with elected officials. They have rejected the Canadian government’s ‘use and throw’ approach to international students and immigrant workers, especially after they worked unsafe and essential jobs during COVID to bail out the economy.
The PGWP committee’s demands have included:
- Extensions of Post-Graduate Work Permits expiring in 2024-25
- Fair pathway to permanent residency
- End to LMIA-based exploitation
Through sustained pressure, the committee won a policy change to LMIAs last month which removes the source of much of that exploitation.

#Townhall Prior to disassembling the tents, the PGWP committee marked 143 days of the encampment protest with a town hall yesterday.
PGWP Committee members — all former international students with expired or expiring work permits — shared reflections on how the encampment brought them together, changed their outlook, and restored their sense of hope. Allied community and labour organizations remarked on the resilience of the committee members and reaffirmed their solidarity.

🧵After 143 days of permanent protest against Canada’s exploitative immigration policies, former international students in the PGWP committee have concluded the encampment in Brampton. They made this difficult decision in response to political developments, including the PM’s resignation and the proroguing of Parliament until March, and will be shifting their strategy to fight for work permit extensions and a fair pathway to PR.
Spirits remain high, and members remain determined to advance their struggle despite the hard road ahead.
