The appointment of the three judges was made on purpose. They only completed a task they were given. One of the judges is close ally of speaker Kingi and at one point Riggy G had protested their suitability. Sources indicate a wife to another judge was given state job. The blatant lie that public participation was done to their satisfaction was a clear prove of how biased they were. Some broadbased bloggers went quiet when Sakaja was saved from impeachment by their principals, while others loudly supported the move. They have also been busy singing tutam, amid growing public outcry over the many challenges facing the residents of Nairobi. Yet today, they are now accusing Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna of failing to provide oversight and pushing all manner of propaganda. This is despite the fact that we have all watched proceedings where Sifuna has on countless occasions questioned and challenged the governor based on reports from the Auditor General and the County Assembly. Perhaps these bloggers should first explain why they went silent, or even supported the move to stop the impeachment in the first place. They were quiet when it mattered most and even now, they do not seem concerned about the real issues affecting Nairobians including massive looting of public resources. They are simply trying to settle political scores. Meanwhile, we must appreciate that the primary oversight role lies with the County Assembly. It is the County Assembly that vets and approves CECs and Chief Officers, scrutinizes and passes budgets and authorizes county expenditure. National institutions also have a critical role in detecting and preventing the solicitation, receipt and movement of proceeds of crime. The Senate’s oversight role is largely secondary and is often exercised through reports from the Auditor General and findings from other oversight and investigative bodies. Senators can only act on evidence and findings generated through established oversight and accountability mechanisms.
