I continue to think about the serious situation in Palestine and in Israel where many, many people have lost their lives. In God’s name, I beg you to stop: cease using weapons! I hope that avenues will be pursued so that an escalation of the conflict might be absolutely avoided.

Currently, select servicemembers overseas can't participate in elections due to  a loophole in federal law—leaving out countless folks. Today, I introduced the VOTES Act to ensure that every eligible servicemember serving overseas can receive a ballot and participate in the democracy they help defend.

Today I’m thinking about Maine and all those suffering and hurting in this beautful state. I love Maine’s beauty. It’s coastline. But I don’t love it’s lack of gun laws. It leaves people vulnerable. It leaves people unsafe. This isn’t just about Maine, it’s about our entire country. It’s about all of us! C’mon, people are dying. People are terrified. Hear this. Read this. Absorb this. We have to get our national act together! Responsible gun owners understand this, and mental health advocates understand this! We, as in the United States of America, have to get united on at least the above and the need for common sense gun laws! As my friend @shannonwatts pointed out today, it’s harder to buy Sudafed in Maine than an AR-15. How can that possibly be? Raise your voice, keep speaking up, and voting for the safety of us all! #abovethenoise

@Franklin_Graham @RepMikeJohnson As a Christian, I pray that he will have the courage and wisdom to lead Republicans to ban assault weapons and support universal background checks. He must be a courageous Christian.

Congratulations to @RepMikeJohnson of Louisiana who was just elected as Speaker of the House! He had unanimous Republican support. Last night after he was elected, he asked the entire GOP to stop and bow their heads and pray with him. That is so great to see. I believe that he is God’s man for this job. I encourage Americans to stop right now and pray for him—that God would protect him and his family and God would use him to help lead our nation through these troubled times.

In the wake of yet another tragedy, I urge Republican lawmakers in Congress to fulfill their duty to protect the American people. Work with us to pass a bill banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, enact universal background checks, and more.
