CBS News' @nancycordes spoke to President Trump Saturday morning and learned that he has read the latest draft agreement to end the war in Iran. Trump said that from this point, one of two things can happen: Either the deal gets signed, or we'll “have a situation where no country will ever be hit as hard as they're about to be hit.”

We're too fond of discussing symbolic gestures and don't want to talk about the core of the problem. Europe must have a sufficient army to defend itself and its interests from Russian aggression. But today's Europe lacks the money, the vision, and the necessary leadership.

Donald Trump overruled his defence secretary’s decision to halt American troops being sent to Poland, it has been reported. The US president pledged an extra 5,000 troops for Poland on Thursday in an about turn that came just days after Pete Hegseth cancelled the deployment of 4,000 US forces to the country 👇 telegraph.co.uk/world-news/202…

Iran wants to buy time and deceive the US and Israel. The old-new ayatollahs want to preserve their power, the old international order, and continue developing nuclear weapons. Everything else is political and diplomatic games. It's unclear why the US is getting involved in this, rather than ending this war within ten days with a series of powerful attacks, finally breaking the existing Iranian system of power and destroying its military-police machine.

NEW: VP Vance reveals that dealing with Iran is highly unstable and that the administration faces a fractured regime where it's "hard to figure out exactly what it is that the Iranians want." "It's not sometimes totally clear what the negotiating position of the team is. And I don't know if that's sometimes bad communication. If that's bad faith, I don't- I wouldn't pretend to venture a guess there.” “But I will say with confidence, it's sometimes hard to figure out exactly what it is that the Iranians want to accomplish out of the negotiation. So what we've done is try to be as clear as possible.” @aishahhasnie

@BBCWorld Today, Putin's Russia is an aggressive proxy for China, a puppet of China's global ambitions. Russia creates problems and tensions for the global West all around, distracting it from containing China in its attempt to annex Taiwan.

For President Trump, any epidemic is the worst-case scenario, as it could lead to a global quarantine, which would mean a global halt to activity, and the global agenda would be determined by the virus, not the President. Therefore, preventative measures to eradicate Ebola are inevitable!

If the UK government fails to heed the IMF's warning today: stop borrowing, regulatory and bureaucratic chaos, and tax pressure on the UK business community, then tomorrow only the Government itself and businesses operating in the public sector will remain in the country, and the last real entrepreneurs will leave.

The enemy of deterrence is certainty. Wars begin when the aggressor is sure he can win quickly, at low cost. Dictators like Putin and Xi are very risk-averse; it’s how they survive. But if Xi is convinced Trump will abandon Taiwan like he did Ukraine, war becomes more likely.
Michael McFaul@McFaul

Arms sales to Taiwan enhance deterrence and help to keep the peace. Avoiding war over Taiwan is a vital US national interest. Arms sales to Taiwan should never be used as a negotiating chip to achieve economic deals with the Peoples Republic of China.
