This has been on my mind the entire day. Yes, it does get overwhelming and miserable. But this is the one decision I’m glad I made for myself. Sometimes I have to pinch myself as a reminder that I’m pursuing a PhD. This is for my 13 year old self who dared to dream❤️

I love being a PhD student. it feels like I’m expected to be miserable or overwhelmed. but as a first-gen student, I’ve had to overcome a lot worse to get here. to read and write and learn for a living feels like a gift that I hope I never take for granted, inshallah 🙏🏽

I DID IT!!!😭🎓I’VE FINALLY GRADUATED & COLLECTED MY PhD IN EDUCATION: URBAN LEADERSHIP AT CGU… my FOURTH degree😭 the final infinity stone 💎✨ From leaving Zimbabwe, to learning English, to being told I wasn’t “good enough”, to walking through Oxford, Harvard and getting an honorary doctorate degree to now completing a PhD at 28 years old … wow. What a journey this has been. 🥹 My research focused on Black women’s experiences in higher education and how universities can better support and retain Black women students once they arrive. I want to continue researching girls’ and women’s experiences globally and helping shape education policy that actually reflects and protects their voices, realities and futures. I’m JUST getting started.

I DID IT!!!🎉 I AM NOW A DOCTOR OF EDUCATION! Last night I passed my PhD defense. I am BEYOND my ancestors’ wildest dreams and I CANNOT wait to use this degree for good & to make change to the systems that have kept our young women from reaching their highest potential. Watch out world, there’s new Doctor in town. Yours truly, Dr. Vee²

We have spent years being told it is “just a period problem” while our skin, our weight, our mood, and our energy were all falling apart. Today, the medical world finally admitted you were right. PCOS is now PMOS.

Omphile still missing: Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has dismissed false social media claims that missing two-year-old Omphile Sethole has been found deceased. Police confirmed that the toddler is still missing and that the search remains ongoing. Omphile disappeared from her home in Ga-Mabuela village during the early hours of Saturday, 02 May 2026. Her 52-year-old grandmother reportedly discovered her missing at around 06:00 after noticing an open window in the room. Cases of housebreaking and kidnapping were opened by Tinmyne Police. At the time of her disappearance, Omphile was wearing a pink jersey and black tights. Lieutenant General Hadebe condemned the spread of misinformation, warning that false reports cause additional trauma to the family and negatively affect police investigations. Police have urged the public not to share unverified information and appealed for anyone with credible information to come forward. Anyone with information regarding Omphile’s whereabouts is urged to contact Sergeant Moshe Mashaba on 082 319 9448, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, the nearest police station or use the MySAPSApp anonymously. Investigations are continuing.
