When Riot detects a DMA board, they have plenty of options. The following are acceptable for dealing with the cheater: 1. Ban the user 2. Permanently hardware-ban every component attached to that motherboard 3. Force-close the game and refuse to launch it until the user turns on basic Windows security features (IOMMU) to block their cheat cards The following is not acceptable: 1. Letting pathetic losers inject hardware-level exploits into a competitive game because they are terrified of basic BIOS settings

Wait, people are getting upset that legitimate cheaters are being banned? I'd be interested to see cases of false positives on this issue or of a similar topic. Curious how much of the internet being mad are real players, largely misinformed, or just fake outrage. I am also part of the group that doesn't know much about it so I'd like to be more informed about this issue. To me it just seems like a case of: you break ToS -> they render your cheat hardware unusable -> cheaters are extremely outraged -> use bots / misinformed people to create a loud angry voice online in the guise of "kernel access = very bad". If you don't like the game and it's rules, shouldn't you just play something else?

Does Vanguard physically damage hardware? No. Does this impact hardware or software in any ways unrelated to Riot’s games? No. The IOMMU security protection does not impact hardware, and would only impact the ability of players using DMA cheat devices to play our games. Are normal players affected? Players not using DMA cheat hardware are unaffected. Why target DMA cheats? DMA-based cheats are among the most sophisticated forms of cheating because they attempt to bypass traditional software detection by accessing memory directly through external hardware. I’m affected by this. How do I fix it? To continue cheating in other titles with this device, you may simply disable IOMMU in BIOS in the same place that you enabled it. Of course, you still won’t be able to play our games with these cheat devices enabled. Why did Riot joke about “bricking” PCs? We didn’t. The “paperweight” comment was about VALORANT cheat devices that no longer work in VALORANT. No hardware is being damaged and no other functionalities are impacted.

We're at the turning point for one of the biggest threats to esports and competitive gaming. Cheating is getting easier and companies are raising the cost of attacking since they can no longer detect them as easily. Part of it is that it's now easier to build a game cheat, even ones that are difficult to detect. AI/computer-vision aimbots can now run entirely off-PC. Coding assistants give you reverse-engineering experience for some free time and tokens. Even kernel-level anti-cheat like Vanguard, which is rare to see a publisher show so much care for, can't always see them. One of the "everyone in the industry already knows" secrets is that the less successful publishers (and some of the very successful ones...) often tolerate cheaters since they still pay $$$ (usually significantly more than the ones that don't cheat). The old model was: a few popular cheat vectors get wide distribution and that's what you patch. That doesn't work anymore, so the only choice left is to raise both the cost of attacking and the cost of getting caught...which is why you're seeing stuff like these bricked devices. It's the only way to make the math work... For publishers, they're doing this (imo) partly out of creating a better competitive environment but probably mostly because it's costing them money..according to a recent 2025 survey: 80% have run into cheaters 52% encounter them monthly and the real reason publishers care: 55% have reduced or stopped spending because of it

women get called "bitches" "whores" "pocket pussy" "dishwasher" for even just giving callouts in game and we still play, men get told to swap and they dc, throw, or start being misogynistic and racist. trust me, women are NOT the sensitive ones.
𔘓@girlfetti

let's talk about how it's always MEN that make awful comments and then turn around and call someone sensitive for rightfully being upset. this is a video game not life or death, respect your teammates or lose.
