@TigoODonnell I feel ER specifically ends up encouraging this line of thinking the most simply cuz there actually *is* a thoughtout history of events. It’s the most lore centric game where lore actually matters. Meanwhile something like Dark Souls feels more vibe-based in its storytelling

Part of the issue of talking about FromSoft narrative discussion is the overt focus people have on item descriptions instead of level design, NPC interactions, environmental storytelling, art direction, enemy/boss design, mechanics, and cinematography that also tells a story.

@RestTarRr @Rechardart Atp why even replay the game? If people are skipping past the videogame levels in their videogame something is fundamentally askew. It highlights how spectacle & bosses have taken over the zeitgeist. Give people a generally pretty backdrop & cool boss and that’s all they want now

@Rechardart It's not that they discourage it. DS2 just prevents you from running past shit. Nothing is stopping you from clearing enemies in ER if that's what you enjoy doing. IMO that's the better approach because not everyone loves clearing levels again and again.

As much as I like Radahn, him taking too much portion of the narrative while having zero characterization kinda annoyed me. Bro is "kind and strong" and that's it. Something about him doesn't sit right to me

On a real note these mfs at fromsoft don't play about Radahn. He always gets patches & fixes if he has issues, he gets brought back for another fight, he gets high levels of care and build up, the item descriptions and NPCs always have good things to say. Favoritism the demigod.

In older games it focused on a key weakness or hidden counterplay, like using a divine weapon vs Nito’s ads or pendant vs Manus’ dark magic. Now it’s become trying to wrap your head around the absurdity of attack animations
